Happy Robot Day!

In our front yard, we are mere shadows of ourselves! I snapped this one-handed
I took the picture of this little guy in our yard last October

Phil and I were woken up by someone very early this morning. As we stumbled outside, rubbing our bleary eyes, we caught a dim glimpse of a preposterous looking man wearing a tophat. But then, we saw our shadow! And according to the Punxsutawney branch of the Hartzlers, that means that spring is this weekend!!! But seriously, what do our groundhog and our little robot have in common? The animal rights organization PETA has accused the Punxsutawney Groundhog club of inhumane treatment of Punxutawney Phil. Saying that groundhogs are extremly shy, and that Phil is exposed to large, screaming crowds, flash photography, and excessive handling. PETA's solution? A robot groundhog! No kidding. They may have a point, as Phil has tried several times to escape, and bit the Mayor of New York last year. On the other hand, most people around here want to shoot groundhogs. But Phil has a climate controlled burrough, and is kept fattened up, so he sort of lives the Life Of Riley! Our time on earth is short, but not compared to the life of a groundhog. They live about two to six years in the wild, so I have no idea how many Phils there have been. What do you think? Shall we have Robot Day instead of Groundhog Day? Send me your comments. And let me know if you saw your shadow upon going out today!
"O Lord, what is man that you care for him,
the son of man that you think of him?
Man is like a breath;
his days are like a fleeting shadow." Psalm 144:3

Absolutely NOT.... What is PETA thinking??? I love to protect the animals --but PETA goes WAY too far I think... I just laugh at most of the things that organization does. Gads!!!!!!

Let's keep the Punxutawney Phil groundhog. PLEASE!!!!

Hope you don't get more ice/snow today.. We had rain last night --but luckily, it didn't change to ice.
Hugs,
Betsy

no shadows here, buckets of water dumping on our heads, i might find one in the house if i look hard enough. I think groundhogs are adorable but i do know they dig up yards and gardens. it is hard for humans to live with animals but i would never hurt a ground hog. or any other four footed furry little thing. I think they are taking things to far with a robot, although robots are sure fun, but it seems to me Phil lives longer than the ones that are in the wild. no different than having a dog or cat in a house, me thinks. love the shot of your shadows AND the cute little guy

We didn't see our shadow this morning -- it's been cloudy and now a fog has moved in. It wouldn't make me angry to have an early Spring here on the Platesu. I hope Phil isn't replaced by a robot.

If it worked with just any old shadow, Phil would have been out of work long ago. Clearly, it must be a Groundhog to make a Groundhog Day. Robot Day or Shadow Day? Nope, just doesn't have that same authority to it.

I hope that you get spring soon.

What is PETA thinking? If they went with the robot Phil would be out of work. Can you imagine a groundhog standing on a street corner asking for handouts? Hey buddy, got any nuts?

Phil tries to bite his handler. How would we react to being dragged out of a warm bed and shoved into a crowd of people before we've had our morning coffee?
