A Heart Of Wisdom

How blessed am I ? I've had two wonderful birthday celebrations. Last week with friends, and today with my family. Here are pictures from today. First picture is the special cake my daughter-in-law, Melissa made for me. She knows I love birds, and this is a little garden with a birdie in a birdbath! Melissa is making all her gifts for the whole year, including Christmas, so she and our son brought a beautiful basket of homemade goodies, including a beautiful china pedestal cake stand that she made. We went out to eat at the local Italian restaraunt, Scotto's. You see that our little granddaughter decided to sign the bill, so grandpa had to hold her up to the counter! Then we came back home for cake and some playing for our granddaughter. As I am another year older, I keep thinking of Psalm 90:12 "Teach us to number our days aright, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom." I probably don't have a heart of wisdom, but I do realize the brevity of life more and more every year. When I read this verse, I think of two people in the bible. King David for the heart, and Solomon for the wisdom. In Acts 13 and 1 Samuel, God said that David was a man after his own heart. How could that be when David did some awful things? Well, no one is perfect, but whenever David sinned, he always turned to God. He constantly affirmed God's holiness and sorrowfully repented. As for Solomon, when God offered him anything, he asked for wisdom. I don't think it ultimately made him happy, but depressed instead. Too much wisdom can be a bad thing. Maybe that's why the heart comes before the wisdom in Psalm 90. I don't think it matters how smart you are if God can look at what's in your heart and be pleased. Wisdom can all be forgotten, can't it? But the heart endures.

ditto on the cake a piece of art. I love all the family fotos. you all look so happy and i especailly like the hubby and son kissing you. Happy Belated Birthday. King David and Solomon are what keeps me going when I feel guilty for things I did in the past. Both of them walked and talked with God and both of them did horrible things. when i feel that guilt nagging at me, i think about these two great men of God and that we can always ask forgiveness.
