The Time Of Our Lives

Yesterday in the car, I looked at the clock, and here's what it said: 13:14. I asked my husband what was up with the clock, and told him that it wasn't showing any time that I know. He replied that he couldn't figure out how to set it ahead an hour, and had inadvertantly set it to military time. So now our car is in it's own time zone. These digital clocks are so much harder to set than the old kind where you just turn the hands. Which type of clock do you favor? I still like the kind with hands, because you know the time instantly when you look. I suppose that shows my age. Have you had any accidents today? Because on the Monday after Daylight Savings Time, there are more accidents at work than usual. Supposedly it's from losing the one hour of sleep. Daylight Savings Time was the origional idea of Ben Franklin. Wasn't he just always coming up with the best ideas? I don't know about you, but I always feel like I have so much more time when we have the extra daylight. A lovely illusion. Because time never changes, only our perception of it.

"Time is a great teacher, but unfortunatly it kills all it's pupils."
Louis Hector Berlioz

"The bad news is time flies.
The good news is you're the pilot."
Michael Althsuler

"Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence
Summer passes and one remembers one's exhuberance
Autumn passes and one remembers ones reverance
Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance."
Yoko Ono

"Time is...
Too slow for those who wait
Too swift for those who fear
Too long for those who grieve
But for those who love
Time is not"
Henry Van Dyke
"This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never all dried at once; a shower is forever falling; Vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and glowing, on sea and continents and islands, each in it's turn, as the round earth rolls."
John Muir

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die...a time to weep and a time to laugh...a time to mourn and a time to dance...a time to search and a time to give up...a time to be silent and a time to speak." Ecc.3

The clocks in your first two photos are so neat, I love to see the inner workings on things like that.

The clocks in our house are mostly digital but we have a few with hands too. I like the digital clocks, it's my hubby that seems to have trouble setting them.

Those are great quotes Ginny.

I did not know that you could set you clock to military time.

I love the quotes.

Hi Ginny, I love clocks and have 3 old chiming clocks in my Great Room. They are easy to change or set... BUT--we do have about 10 more clocks in our home--many of them are digital. As long as I have my glasses on and can see the digital clocks, I have no trouble setting them.

We do have one clock which sets itself --and is on 'official' time... I love that one --since we try to set all of our clocks by that 'official' one.

I do not like changing the time... I do like the extra daylight--but I just want to keep it this way!!! It takes my body about 4-5 days to adapt to this change.

The best thing to remember about time is to spend it wisely!!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

Oh I can't stand how long it takes for me to figure out military time. I must be old as well because I like the old fashioned clocks with the face. I have one of that type as my alarm clock. It lights up and about five minutes before the alarm rings it flashes light. Such a more peaceful way to wake up.

i prefer reading digital but setting the ones with hands. my watches are all 3 with hands and pull out knobs to set, all the clocks in the house are digital. two of them are the 3 inch numbers so I can see them from accross the room. the kitchen has 5 clocks to be set each time the time changes. I like the time that goes with 12 noon means the sun is straight up over head. I call that the REAL time. my computer always changes it's own time and i love that, but a year ago, somehow it changed to military. until 1 pm I have no trouble, after that i use my fingers to figure out what time it is.

Great thoughts, Ginny! I'm especially fond of the Ecclesiastes passage; it's so beautifully written. Your pics fit perfectly.

Hope you get your car clock set correctly! I remember when clocks were oh-so-simple!

We use what you call "military" time in all official contexts and commonly in everyday conversation too. I never heard anyone having a problem with it! ;) I don't really mind what kind of clock/watch I use. I do however usually have big problems adjusting my inner clock to shift from winter to summer time (daylight savings time). We do that at the end of March here.

I really like the analog clocks, but digital clocks are everywhere now and just can't be avoided. Digital clocks are too bad to set in the Spring, but they are a major pain in the fall since you just can't fall back one hour.
