Go Fly A Kite!

These pictures were taken by me when we were either flying kites or watching others fly. I snapped about half of them today when we went to a local field with Ella to test fly our kites for the first time this year. Why did we fly all these kites today? Because it's Good Friday! Legend has it that a teacher in Bermuda was looking for a way to demonstrate to her students Christ's ascention into Heaven. She made a kite with a wooden frame in the shape of a cross and painted Jesus' image on it. As it soared into the sky, it symbolized Jesus ascending into heaven. So on Good Friday, Bermuda will fly colorful kites made of sticks and tissue paper. They can be seen flying all over the island. If you would like to see some of this, go to YouTube and type in Bermuda Good Friday Kites. Today was the beginning of Christ's agony, and the beginning of everlasting life for us. Many Catholic churches begin their worship services at 3 P.M. on Good Friday, which is the time some believe Jesus to have died. I don't know how anyone would know that. Here's one thing I do know, though.

"Are you asking one another what I meant when I said,'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while, you will see me?' I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy." John 16:19

So fill your heart with joy and go outside today if the weather is nice. Look at the amazing beautiful world that God has given us and fly a kite. And as it ascends, fall to your knees and give thanks amid the green grass, blue sky, and world of never-ending second chances.

Love your new header and all of the kite photos. It would have been a nice day for kites here today but tomorrow we are getting rain and wind.

You got some beautiful pictures of kites, and the picture of Ella is wonderful. I saw many fascinating kites being flown while I was in China.

Gorgeous kites, Ginny... I had never associated flying kites with Good Friday... That is just so neat!!!!

I love all of the different kites these days. Things have changed all through the years when it comes to the looks and types of kites. Todays' kites are SO gorgeous!!!!

What beautiful kites . . . so colorful! The bright colors remind me of the colors of Spring! I'm so thankful Christ arose from the tomb and that He ascended to Heaven where He intercedes for us!

In answer to your question on my blog - yes we do sing "Above All" at our church. In fact, we sang it Wed. night, and it's one of my favorites.

Have a blessed Easter!
