An Unexpected Easter

"If the Lord delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand." Psalm 37:23,24

Why is my header a picture of a ladder put out with the trash? Take a look as these pictures show it closer and closer. It is our Easter story. As I reported in yesterday's post, we did not get to have an Easter egg hunt or give a basket to our granddaughter because of an accident. This is what happened. Shortly before our family were to come over, our son called. Our daughter-in-law had fallen from the attic into the living room hallway. We went over there right away, where we found Melissa laying on the couch bloody and bruised, in considerable pain. Our granddaughter ran up to us, upset that her mom might have to go to the hospital. We did what we could to help, which wasn't much. Here's the story. Our son Mike was up in the attic. Melissa was standing on the very top part of the ladder looking into it. The wood actually snapped in two, and down she went. This left Mike up in the attic with no way to get down. Melissa had to drag, scootch herself out of the way so Mike could jump; quite a drop. He was only momentarily hurt. She is left swollen, bruised and with a painful arm and leg. But we were blessed, because it seems nothing is broken or very badly injured. And this is really what Easter is about, isn't it? New beginnings!! And here is something I've learned; not to use wooden ladders, ever. I think metal are much safer.

"The Lord is fathful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down." Psalm 145:13,14

Oh My Gosh---we have a wooden ladder that goes up to the attic above our garage.... It pulls down when we want to go up there.... GADS---George and I need to be more careful...

Glad your son and daughter-in-law are okay---but I'm certainly sorry that it happened at all... You'll have to have an Easter Egg hunt on another occasion for your granddaughter.

Glad everyone is okay, Ginny.
Hugs,
Betsy

So sorry to hear about the accident... But glad it wasn't worse.

One never rellay knows what's to happen next, and probably that's just as well.

I was never good with ladders, or heights. I never set foot in the attic in my parents' house where I grew up (also only reached by a ladder).

Oh my goodness, I'm glad neither your daughter-in-law or son were seriously hurt. All of our ladders are metal but I am totally afraid of that top step.

I'm glad that neither your son or daughter-in-law were seriously injured -- a fall like that can be bad. I hope they are both feeling better now. It looks like you had a very fun egg hunt with Ella. Perhaps you can schedule a special hunt for your granddaughter.

Ginny, was this a pull down step from the attic or a step ladder? not that it matters. Not a good thing to happen any day, but not good at all for your Easter day. I am so happy she is ok, and pray she will be better each day. bob retired 11 years ago and decided to paint the house. he painted all week on a rickety wooden step ladder without my approval. on Saturday he had one high spot to paint and I was doing window trim with a paint brush, right around the corner. I heard him yell and a loud noise and a loud CRACK! flew around the corner, the ladder had turned over, he fell accross it on his back and broke 5 ribs, one of which was splintered. We were blessed in that it did not break his back. 3 months of healing and we both have a heathy repspect for wooden ladders. it did not break, he needed me to hold it and it would not have happened. yesterday I came home to find he had been using the chain saw and taking down a tree WHILE i was not here. I gave him what for and explained gently we need someone with us when we do dangerous work. he said it was NOT dangerous. I know you know it WAS

You know that it's been quite some time since I've visited but I've enjoyed catching up in my reader this morning. Thanks for making the whole post available in your feeds. I had to stop here to express my relief that everyone's okay after this frightening mishap. These days I try to avoid ladders whenever possible ... just because.

I enjoyed your Easter posts (the hot cross buns looked quite tasty), loved the colorful kites, and am glad you and your husband got out to the high school play. Your photos bring back wonderful memories of attending such theatrical productions and watching my sister's youngest boy perform.

Hugs and blessings,
