Chew On This - Part I

Last year our little granddaughter, Anne Marie, had seen gumball machines in the store, and really wanted one. So we bought one and gave it to her for her Christmas Eve gift. It was great to give it to her and see her surprise and excitement. We had already loaded it with gumballs. I showed her how to turn the knob so one could come out. You can't see it well in the picture, but the gumball goes around and around in a long spiral as it goes down. Fun to watch. And when it came out, she held it in her hand, turned it around, and stared at it in wonder. Then she did this. She gave it to me and said "How do you put it back in?" Without even putting it in her mouth, her joy was complete. When I explained that she didn't have to put it back, but could chew it, and then get another, she was overcome. She had asked for this gift, but she had gotten so much more more than she even hoped for.

"For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?" Matthew 7:7,11

Hi Ginny, Isn't it amazing how kids can love the simple things??? That little gumball machine was something that she absolutely loved. How special is that!!!!

Sometimes, it doesn't take money or the fancy-dancy gifts to make someone happy... Anne Marie is just precious. I know you loved seeing her happy face when you explained that little gift to her. She did receive much more than she asked for!!!!!

Great post, Ginny...
Hugs,
Betsy

Oh no..alright, it begs the question- how many did she eat before someone had to draw the line, ha ha! I was deprived as a kid!! This was so cute, what a sweety pie Ginny!

How sweet, Anne Marie loved the gumball for what it did and not the contents. Most kids would have had it emptied in minutes. She is so adorable and that smile is contagious.

I love your header, that's a lot of very colorful gumballs.

You gave her a gumball and not a stone. she looks so happy with that gumball machine. I love the big ones that cost a quarter for each gumball. when we eat in one of our favorite resturants, they have a whole bank of them, and i never have a quarter. Last time we went, as we got to the door, hubby handed me a quarter. yipeee! i put it in and guess what? if rolled out on the floor. bummber. but I did get one the next time to chew. Grape!

Is that adorable Anne Marie always so happy and sparkly? I loved this post! I would have loved a gum ball dispenser of my own as a child. Talk about a "kid in the candy store"! This is the ultimate and her joy in just having it is so sweet.

Best,
Bonnie

You just love giving presents to that little girl, don't you? ;)

Reminds me of my maternal grandfather, he always came up with unusual gifts, like mechanical toys. I think he enjoyed them as much as we children did!

Oh my word she is so cute!! My daughter used to have a gumball machine and she loved it!

Regarding my blog post, that is the moon rising over the mountains. It was absolutely beautiful. And, that is me in the pale blue top. I am standing with my husband and our five children.

What a cute picture of Anne Marie and her gift. I think it is wonderful that Anne Marie was overjoyed with what the gumball machine does rather than what it gives her.

Oh, I love this! Isn't it so true that God gives us so much more than we hope for . . . and we've only just begun!

Anne Marie is so pretty! I know she is a joy to your family!
