I Was Mocked, And Fled

O.K., I would never kill a mockingbird, really!! But you see...this afternoon this mockingbird decided to take a dip in our driveway puddle, then he flew onto our newspaper tube to preen and dry off. Later in the day, I spotted this book in a store. All this brought back harrowing memories of a shopping trip gone awry. Several years ago, I was going into the mall for some serious shopping. Just before going inside, I was attacked by an angry mockingbird. As he kept dive bombing my head, I put my hands up to protect myself, screamed, and fled for the car. I went around to the other side of the mall and used a different entrance, chosing to walk much further rather than be attacked again. Once safely inside the mall, I heard that others had been attacked as well. The bird had a nest under the eave of the store, and was protecting her eggs. This kamikaze dive bomber was on full alert all day. So you can understand why I feel a little twinge whenever I see a mockingbird. I have been attacked by two other winged creatures, as well. But those are stories for another day...

"The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law. I remember your ancient laws, O Lord, and I find comfort in them...Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. In the night I remember your name, O Lord, and I will keep your law." Psalm 119:51,55

These are great photos, Ginny. I didn't know that mockingbirds were attack birds but maybe if they're protecting their nest and babies. I've been dive-bombed by crow parents but I knew it wasn't personal. They never actually touched me.
Thrills can still be found in those retro candy stores so someone's making it - and buying it. We can't get those Chiclets (they always reminded me of big teeth) any more either.

Perfect scripture to go with your post, Ginny.... I'm sure that getting dive-bombed by a bird was scary as heck. Wonder if the mall people took down the nest???? If they got enough complaints, I'll bet they had to do something. How sad for the birds --but how horrible for the customers.

We supposedly have mocking birds around here (it's Tennessee's bird)--but I've never had any come to our feeders.

Hope you had a good weekend---and please don't get 'mocked' again!!!

I didn't realize that birds had it in for you. I hope you don't encounter any more dive-bombing mockingbirds in the future.

Hi Ginny..we had some fiesty Blue Jays in California while growing up. They swooped after a cat we had and was told -my brothers head when he was small- walking down our driveway. These are nice images here. Oh..I responded late to my flower post but that is the name (Pagoda) and I wish my bird could chat..he's a little communicater though.
Anyway, hope you have a wonderful day tomarrow-

Great photos Ginny, the mockingbird had a great bath. That would be a scary experience to be attacked by a bird. I have never had it happen to me but I have seen birds swoop down at neighborhood cats.

Love the header, that is a great book.

I just read that book with a state wide library read. I hadn't read it before. What a fantastic book. When I was a girl the man who lived next door was befriended by a wild robin. It would land on his shoulder. But, no attacking.

Did you see Tippi Hedren or Suzanne Pleshette around the mall? Alfred Hitchcock? I admire your going to the other entrance and walking further. A woman on a shopping mission is unstoppable!

Best,
Bonnie

I love the way they protect their nests. I love mockingbirds and my favorite thing here to do is go outside about 1 in the morning when it's very quiet and listen to which ever one is around then going through all his sounds he's learned.

i am laughing out loud, the title slays me and the last photo looks like you did kill him. i love mocking birds, but sometimes I yell at ours and say Enough already, we have heard your 1001 songs enough for now. he gets on the powerlines and mocks his heart out. these photos are to cute. I have been attacked by a white turkey gobbler and have seen jays and mocking birds attack cats and dogs

Great series of pictures, and after that story I can understand if you feel a bit wary of them...! I don't we have that particular species of bird here but I know that there are other ones that sometimes get into that kind of behaviour. Like gulls.
