A Sweaty Day

This post is about our short trip that was cut short today. And believe me, there was a whole lot of sweatin' goin' on! Phil and I went with a friend to a local and widely famous flower and daylily garden. But when we got there, most of the fields of flowers were past their prime or hadn't bloomed yet. Bummer! I did get these pictures of the remaining ones, though. Something I hadn't taken into consideration was the heat, 90 degrees. While looking at the flowers, I sweat so much that I got sick. It was HOT! Making matters worse were these pesky sweat bees. They were crawling and flying all over the flowers, making it troublesome to get good close-ups. Sweat bees are small bees that are usually hairless and there are many kinds. So named because they are attracted to human sweat and like to drink it. So I was their afternoon tea! Fortunatly, I was very mindful of them and did not get stung. I was so relieved to get back into the cool car that it took me a moment to see these thunderheads. After surviving the bees, we now had to race home to avoid the dreaded pop-up storms, and weather reports of hail. I later found out that the hail was as big as ping-pong balls in some areas, but thankfully we avoided it! Now showered and cool again, my hot and sweaty day reminds me of one who sweat like no other. It's all in the perspective, isn't it?

"Jesus went out as usual to the Mount Of Olives, and his disciples followed him... An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground." Luke 22

I like them all -- even the bees -- but those first two are so beautiful. Makes me want to smell them.

Great close-up of the bees - and the clouds are beautiful!

You're right about perspective, especially when it comes to our temporary suffering!

Have a good weekend!

Ginny I've never seen a flower like the fifth one down! Very unusual with all the ruffles in the center? So those are the hairless bees then you've described on the pink petals right? Well they look so life like! I was going through drawings in old children's books and that's what they remind me of. I was feeling sorry for you and ended up laughing at the afternoon tea! Sure does sound like story book material! Then the hail you had to avoid! It appears things just got cut short huh? I think I can relate to this. Well I like your series here and post!! Hope your relaxed and have a great evening-

Ginny, I'm so sorry that your day turned out to be so hot. It's been warm here too--but not in the 90's for sure... Sorry the flowers weren't so pretty either....

Glad you didn't get the hail and severe weather.... With temps this high, it's like summer storms, isn't it?????? Crazy weather!!! I read today that due to the heat this summer, we could have lots of hurricanes... Yipes!!!!

Glad you are cool and relaxed tonight...
Hugs,
Betsy

Pesky little bees! I don't see them around here but sure remember them from my "valley" days. Sounds kind of cool--"valley" days--so we won't put the Shenandoah with it!! As always, your photos are great. I feel almost on a first-name basis with those bees!

Have a good weekend!

Best,
Bonnie

I never heard of sweat bees, and I don't recognize those in your photos. Don't think we have them here. Mind you, one advantage of living in a town apartment is getting away from a lot of the insect life... ;)

what more could you want in photos, lovely all of them. the bugs look like water paintings by a great artist, the flowers are goregous and I see someone hiding in the bushes that is not a sweat bee or bug. hummm
i must say, I hate sweat bees, they make hikes in our woods here a misery when it is hot, sweat to them is like pollen to a bee. also the bees are out in full force and when i sweat the all come running. great post

Oh my - so glad you didn't get stung. My camera "protects" me - but if I had sweat bees in my area I would hightail it outta there - bees are not my friend!! Purty flowers - sorry you got sick!

You certainly did not have a dull day. You did get some good pictures of the lilies -- ours are just starting to bloom. I'm glad you were able to avoid the hail. Hail that size can do serious damage to a car!

Great macros, Ginny. I've never seen these bees before. They sound a little sticky.

The Big Cat

Not to be outdone by that upstart The Big Cow and his friends, the Big Cat bought a new Easter bonnet! It is purrrfectly lovely! And while ...
