Bang Bang

"The sun, the moon and the stars would have disappeared long ago...had they happened to be within reach of predatory human hands." Havelock Ellis

"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money." Cree Indian Proverb

Last Wednesday, we finally got to eat at the Bonefish Grill! This is a nationwide seafood restaraunt chain that came here a few years ago, and all the reviews have been wonderful. Consumer Reports rated them the best seafood chain in the country. We have been meaning to go for a couple years now, but just never got around to it until now. During the largest oil spill in history. But this dinner was partly because of the oil spill. How much longer will there be good fish, and will the prices skyrocket? My third picture is the metal fish handle on their big revolving door. The waiters all wore white chef's coats. Our waiter patiently explained every item on the menu, then challenged us to ask him anything. We were treated like royalty. The food was wonderful, except an appetizer called "Bang Bang Shrimp." This was a customer favorite and $3.00 off every Wednesday, but gummy and not so great. It is the last picture. I should have known that any food starting with BANG should be regarded with suspicion. Before long, it will be bang bang to a lot of fish, and a lot of fishermen's jobs. And a lot of birds, marsh grass, whole eco-systems. We've traded beach balls for tar balls. Instead of seashells on the beach, it's oil on the half shell. By July first, BP must pay the government at least 69 million dollars. But how do you pay God back?

"The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters." Psalm 24:1,2

"How many are your works, O Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number - living things both large and small." Psalm 104:24,25

It's very sad to watch this all happening. Hindsight is an amazing thing.

Oh my, that sign in the second pictures really looks ominous... just screaming "The Death of Fish"... Is that supposed to be appetizing?!

Good post, though. So many things we take for granted... and then something happens to show us that we're really living on the edge.

I have never eaten at the two we have here, but my friends love it. Hubby will not eat fish unless it is fresh caught by him. Ours here does not have that great sculpture on it. the bang bang looks gross and i would not have liked it either. we are again sistas. you are so right about the fish and jobs, the jobs are already gone, and I love those two quotes and they are oh so true.
the verses are perfect today. have a good sunday

First, I thought from your heading that you'd shot the crow!! My sister told me about Bonefish. They love it. We don't have one around here.

I hang my head in shame for my part in the oil spill. Ultimately, it is our fault. We demand too much from the earth without considering the consequences.

Best,
Bonnie

P.S. Thanks, Ginny, for the camera information. I'm thinking about the Nikon D3000. We have a local, independent camera store that I will probably use. I know it will cost me a little more but might be worth it in the long run for the help they can give me. I only hear good things about them and they've been in business for over 40 years here. And, whenever possible, I prefer to use that type of business over the big box stores.

Best,
Bonnie

Wow...I agree fully with everything written on this post. Humans have killed off just about everything and they're not going to be happy until they've ruined it all. Makes me sick. I do want to come back and eat at that restaurant though. Someday. I love that first quote. Mind if I use it on a post? I have one that's been irritating my brain for sometime now.

It's one of our favorite restaurants - not that we eat there often - but it's good!!

I haven't heard of this restaurant but then we live in a small town. The Bang Bang Shrimp doesn't look at all appetizing.

The Exxon Valdez spill was tiny in comparison to this one but I saw the aftermath of that one and it was not a pretty sight. The Cree Indian proverb is incredibly correct. Very sad indeed.

I have set up a post on my test blog with a Mister Linky. If you want to learn how to leave links it is a great place to practice. Even if you make a mistake it doesn't matter since only a few will see it. Sandra also has the link. If you have problems leave a comment on that post and I will help. The test post is at SquirrelZone
Or you can find the link on The Road to Here on my sidebar. Just have fun with it, plus you get to see my crazy blog.

Hi Ginny,

The link I left above will take you to a post with a sign-in link like the link I will have set up for the Silly Photo Challenge.

I thought you might want to practice leaving a link before the challenge.

Since it is on my test blog you can try it as often as you like.

Looks like the 24 year Global ban on whale hunting is going to be lifted too! We'll see what happens? Shrimp is one of my favorites but I have to be careful as I've had some reactions. I just ate lunch with my oldest son at a Japanese sea food restaurant. Had rice with sea weed on the bottom and small diced tomatoes, raw fish (ahi and salmon) with peelings of scallops. Very tasty. We got to talking to the Chef about Blowfish and the sack of poison that gets removed. My son asked him something about it and he said the danger was in folks who liked to live dangerously..they (chef) will give them just a bit of the poison for tang (can you believe that)?! and some just either get a little too much or they have a bad reaction and die!! I love seafood and it looks like we are in a bad situation! Great post Ginny-

Hi, Ginny! I've never heard of the restaurant you wrote about, but it sounds like a good place to eat.

I like the idea of having VBS throughout the summer and the games theme. You asked if I was a teacher - I was a "floater" this year, helping prepare and serve snacks, taking pics, and filling in as a crew leader. Kids were divided into "crews" and moved from one station to another - Bible story, music, movie, crafts, games, snacks.

Have a great week!

I have been to Bonefish Grill twice. The first time I didn't like it at all. The second was so-so. You know that it is part of the Outback chain.

I prefer our local seafood restaurant, The Crab Trap!

I have seen Bonefish Grills before --but have never eaten at one. We have favorite seafood places at the beach and then don't eat much seafood the rest of the year..

The oil spill is horrible. I cry every single time I see those oil-drenched birds.

Hugs,
Betsy
