Ring Of Fire

Rings of fire, they can have many meanings. First picture is me in a ring without fire. When I was a kid, I was the hula-hoop champ. Now that I'm matronly and have proper hips, I can't even keep one up. For some reason, I've lost the wiggle in my jiggle. This man certainly has a way with rings. He was performing outside one cold night and we stopped to watch. We were so close that the heat burned on my face, I'll do anything for a good picture! There is an area around the Pacific ocean called The Ring Of Fire, because it is a zone of volcanic activity. June Carter Cash wrote about falling down into a burning ring of fire in her song about falling in love with Johnny Cash. Then there is another ring of fire described in the bible. God promises Jerusalem that it will be a city without walls. Because God himself will be a wall of fire around it. A wall of fire will be able to expand or get smaller, and be the ultimate protection.

"Jerusalem will be a city without walls, because of the great number of men and livestock in it. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it," declares the Lord, "and I will be it's glory within."
Zec.2:5

I would be on fire in seconds... never was very good with the hula hoop. That takes a lot of talent.

How does anyone LEARN to do things like that? Didn't their parents ever tell them not to play with fire? (LOL)

At the hospital where I used to work there was a physiotherapist who was also a circus artist who used to do things like that - swallow fire, walk on glass. I saw him perform a couple of times in Christmas shows etc and I always wondered - how can someone who does that understand other people's pain? I have no idea what he was like in his profession. For all I know he might have been really good. I just wondered...

Ginny this was so cool- I enjoyed all these images here, yet love the way you put this together- Was this event near you? I was thinking about that song as you seem to lead up to it! I just saw a little smoke rising from the volcano from the ocean vent just before dark. Thankfully it's been very tame which has given us a chance to breathe again!
Hula hoops were fun! Thanks for a delightful and inspirational read-

Good morning Ginny --

Great post and great words as well. I tried to hula a few years back. I remember it being quite easy when I was kid, but not so much now as an adult!

Good Morning again, It's 5 a.m. here --and I am UP... We're going to Hendersonville today to check on G's parents...

I laughed at you saying that you have lost the wiggle in your jiggle. WELL---I have alot of things that jiggle these days ---but it's not the type of jiggle that one would want... Giggle Giggle!!

I was also going to ask where was YOUR fire on the ring in that first picture.... I'll bet you'd have some WIGGLE if you lit that hoop on fire... Doncha think????? I'd definitely be wiggling and jiggling--but it wouldn't be pretty to watch!!!!

Beautiful pictures of the fire/ring... Don't know how people can do that...

YES---I do remember Johnny Cash's song, Ring of Fire, very well....

Have a great day ---and keep working on that wiggle (or jiggle)....
Love,
Betsy

Ginny: I like the way you tie your posts to an appropriate verse from the Bible. Which usually comes first, the photo or the verse?

I never lost my hula hoop mojo because I never had it. Try as hard as I might, that hoop would not spin on my, then, hipless body!! And so, as the neighborhood kids gyrated with their many colored hoops, I was THE JUDGE!! = (

Best,
Bonnie

I never could hula hoop, not even when I was young. Congrats for being the champ, (well at least when you were young.)

Fire hoops and games make me nervous. I watch America has talent, and the contestants do all sorts of thing.

No, I don't ski, just like you, been a few times, and fall more than stand. We go for the kids. When they go for lessons, we just for for walks. Yesterday, we had more than 100 skiers and many young students stranded up the ski field.

In the Spring, I like to walk. We walk for long distance, and it is not tiring.

who sings the song" Ring of Fire?" May be you can post it in Anni's new Thursday Song theme.

When I saw the first picture I thought we would see you performing with the ring of fire. Seriously, I would join you in watching, not doing!

I am so glad you did not say you were going to attempt this at home! :) Now that I have read your post I will always have that image of God being the burning ring of fire around Jerusalem whenever I am at a campfire. I love this because normally campfires include friends and family and how nice it will be to know that we are all protected by God's love.

awesome. I love this kind of show. I am always mesmerized when I see one. People who can do such acts are talented indeed considering it's risky.

I would love to do one like that one day the only problem is that I can't even make a hula hoop stay up. Kids at my work taught me how but I still didn't get it. Maybe I was wiggling the wrong parts of my body. what do you think hahaha?

Blessings to you both this weekend.

You never fail to delight me, Ginny. Wiggle in the jiggle lost. Hello! Me too. LOL I live on part of that Pacific Rim. It can really rock and roll here sometimes. I didn't know Ring of Fire was about June's falling in love with Johnny. And you move everything once again to the Bible. Beautiful.

Isn't that weird? You'd think having hips would be helpful with a hula hoop...like you, I've found out that fifty years has taken me from champ to chump. As for twirling them when set alight...no thank you! I have a hard time even watching it.

I too used to be pretty good with the Hula Hoop, but that was then and this is now.To many yummy treats have settled in places that make it hard to wiggle.
God's protecting ring of fire is a comfort.Hope your day is wonderful.
Blessings,Ruth

Weeeeeell, I fell into a burnin' ring of fire. Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself from burstin' out in song. I hula-hooped a homecoming parade when I was seven and can still do tricks with it in Kid's Church. I have a post called 'Ring Of Fire" under chick chats...it's on menopause.

God bless ya and have a marvelous weekend girl! :o)

I enjoyed your post today. Rings of fire. My son is an amateur juggler in CA. I also enjoy seeing photographs of volcanic eruptions such as Kilauea in Hawaii where there is lava erupting at night. Interesting. Have a great evening!

Ha.. I used a 'fire-paton' at a football game half-time show in high-school once. Went a little too low... and caught the grass on fire. OMGoooosh... I stomped it out and kept on twirling. lol

Sweet blog you have here. Following and will be back!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs,
Coreen

He is very talented to juggle all that fire, it must have been beautiful to watch.

I lived in the Pacific Ring of Fire while in Alaska, lots of volcanoes there. Of course we have a few volcanoes here in WA too so I guess I'm still in it. Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire is going to be stuck in my head for awhile but that's okay since I love that song.

Fun post Ginny! That would have been quite a performance to watch! Thanks for the pics! Never did learn the hoola hoop the first time around, don't think I'd catch on now. Am not coordinated enough for that, lol!

Love thinking on the verse about God being a wall of fire around Jerusalem - awesome protection from the enemy!

Have a blessed Sunday!
