Computer Crash

Dear blogging friends, this has been a very trying day, both physically and emotionally. Then I came home this evening to find that my computer had crashed. Dell tech support ran some tests over the phone and informed me that the operating system is corrupted. I need to wipe out and reload the whole system, but I do not have any backup. Now I somehow need to retrieve all my data from a computer that will not run. Tomorrow a tech is coming over to remove my hard drive and put it in another computer, hopefully retreiving the files. But if the source of the problem is a bad hard drive, this will not work and I will lose all my files. If everything works well, I should be up and running sometime this weekend, we will see. I am writing this from my husband's computer. Of course I have no e-mail, so if you want to contact me, please use my husband's e-mail, which I will be checking throughout the day. The address is:
phil.hartzler@yahoo.com Please do not forget me, and I will be giving you updates on the problem, but I have no access to pictures without a lot of trouble.

Aw Ginny, so sorry to hear about your computer problems. I wish I could give you a crash (no pun intended) course in fixing the problem.

If you can still access the hard drive try transferring your photos to a flash drive.

Good Luck!

Hi Ginny, Well, I'll pray for your computer's hard drive to cough, wheeze, and give up the treasures it has stored for you! If you do have to replace, maybe consider using Apple Mac computers - fewer problems. Have a better tomorrow!

I'm so sorry, Ginny.... I could cry for you... I hope you can retrieve everything. Please get yourself a back-up from now on. None of us can always trust computers.

Hugs and Loads of Prayers,
Betsy
P.S. Judy (Squirrel Queen) is a WHIZ and can help if you need her.

I've not been "online" much this week, too busy and tired to spend much time at the computer. Sorry to hear about your crash, I hope it will be possible to retrieve most of your files.

Ginny, You have my sympathy as I have experienced the same thing. I had a young tech come out and put my hard drive into a separate box, and it is hooked now to the docking station as an extra (outboard) drive which attaches to my laptop via usb plug! The knowledge of our young people amazes me.

What's with all the computers right now? They seem to be crshing right, left and center. Fingers crossed, you'll probably be able to get your files back...

I'm so far behind in visiting blogs that Betsy has told me that you are back up and running. But I know the entire experience had to be very frustrating, even if things did end up alright.

Oh Ginny... this is indeed a nightmare for bloggers like us. I know how it feels and how terrible it is. Computer is our life line so to speak and being out of it for just a day is like you are gasping for air.

I hope you will have your computer back soon. Meantime, you need to relax and appreciate nature more. Maybe God is telling you to have a break.

went to your May post on the Peony, very interesting.

Peonies are a revered flower in China. In the old days, the courtesans wore heavy headdress, with a giant Peony at the front. In Chinese they are called MU DAN WAH

Hi Ginny, Am so sorry about a traumatic day you have but all will be well. Too bad you don't have any backup.I also faced a similar nightmare a couple of months back but I never lost my data cuz I had backed up online with; www.safecopybackup.com. They have 3GB free trial if you like. I suggest that next time you also learn to do the same, u'll save yourself from heartaches.
