Last Day

Welcome to Willy's, our local soft serve ice-cream stand! Come along with me and let's have the last cone of the summer! The second picture is our adorable granddaughter at Willy's a couple years ago, can you tell she's getting ice-cream? The third picture is Phil ordering, next is the two of us this evening. And the last picture is a little girl who is jumping clear off the ground in anticipation of her treat! We were there tonight because it is their last night of the year. They close in the fall, and don't re-open till spring. Willy's has been around as long as I can remember, and you can tell the seasons by whether it is open or not. It is sad to see them close at the end of summer, and a joy to drive past and see they are finally open, it means that spring is here! Sometimes it seems that Willy's itself is changing the seasons, but we all know that's not true.

Praise be to the name of God forever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
He changes times and seasons;
he sets up kings and deposes them.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.
I thank you and praise you, O God of my fathers..."

We have a Dairy Queen that closes during the winter months. During the summer, truckloads of young ball players from the local park crowd in to get a cool treat. Your granddaughter is absolutely precious. Wishing you and Phil a wonderful week.

Seriously, Ginny. We are going to have so much fun when Don and I travel East. Latest update is sometime in 2012. Thought it would be 2011 but he wants to do mini-trips that year to get used to the whole camping as we go thing.

Do your ice cream stores close for the year? I remember when I was in canada, I was past this closed ice cream store, and when it was warmer, it opened again.

My friends who are business students said, how can business be viable when you are opened 1/2 the year.

Your grand is very cute. Does she have a Chinese name?

I scream for ice cream--like "stop". I remember when Dairy Queens used to close for the winter before they added all kinds of fast food to their menus!

To answer you question, this was the first appetizer for a husband-prepared meal. Unless we have company, we aren't so fancy as to have a first course!! Since he has retired, he enjoys cooking a few times a week.

Best,
Bonnie

Your granddaughter is so cute! You can tell she's excited about getting some ice cream! :)
Our ice cream shops close over the winter too.
Our town is very much a summer tourist spot, so us locals only have McD's or the grocery store to choose from if we want some ice cream during the winter.
When I was pregnant with my daughter in the winter, I was craving ice cream of course and would stop by Dairy Queen in the mall to get a cone when I got off work at Sears. I felt so silly walking around with a coat on carrying my ice cream cone. People would look at me, then my belly, then they would just smile. :)

Yes, the closing of the ice cream stands and the frozen snow cone stands signal the true onset of fall. Although I understand we might get up close to 90 degrees today.

BTW, I looked again at the slip slide post and had not noticed the dignified visitor in the first picture... he/she is obviously wondering at the stupidity of these humans to actually slide and get wet on purpose.

Is that the place right near David's? I didn't realize they closed for the winter. Boo! I've had some good treats from there.

Love your header...such glorious colors and so beautifully clear. Well, I am sorry that it's come to this...the closing of the ice cream shop. The one in town is closed, but we're still making infrequent stops at one and I'm hoping that it isn't closed today.

infrequent stops at one out of town that is...

I really like that picture of your granddaughter -- it's very cute.
We have a miniature golf course on the road to town that marks the seasons for us in the same manner.

What a lovely photo of you and Phil.
Soft-serve ice cream here seems to be monopolized by DQ. Hard ice cream and gelatos seem to be more popular.

Time for hot chocolate now that the ice store is closed.

I do remember the days when DQ closed for the winter months. When they added other items to their menu they stayed open year round. What a lovely pic of your granddaughter - super excited or what???!!! The last cone of summer - sounds like a song!

What a fun place! In a way it's good that certain things are not available to us every single day of the year - or else we'd not appreciate them as much when they finally are back again!

Thanks for the lovely photos. Icecream is always something to jump about, no matter how old the kids are ;-)

With kind regards,
Doris :-) and Gizzy

Hi Ginny, I'd order a sugar free Butter Pecan in a cup. That is exactly what I had a week ago when I was visiting in Northern California on a quick trip to see our son. I like the accompanying Scripture verse you posted today very much.
Have a wonderful day!

Has Willy's closed now???? I'm sure it will soon --since winter is soon to be here.

What a great post. I love getting ice cream in the summer! There is a great place beside one of the trails I like to walk on in the summer and they sell the best hard ice cream in town. Mmmm. :o) It's great to sit on a bench and watch the river go by while eating some yummy ice cream!

Our local drive-in closes for the winter season, too ... it gives one something to look forward to in the spring.

Anne Marie looks very excited about the ice cream, she is so cute.

I never thought about ice cream parlors closing during the winter months. In Anchorage all of the ice cream parlors were open year round and they were always busy. Maybe the darkness has something to do with Alaskans' love for the cold stuff.
