THUNDERSNOW!

I've been through the thundersnow and lived to tell about it!! Yesterday, we had thundersnow! Don't believe me? Take a look at the headlines from one newspaper we subscribe to; several states just had this rare phenomenon. There are only about six reported each year in the whole country, as conditions have to be just right. The air near the ground has to be warmer than the air higher up, and the temperatures must be very precise. We were wakened by the thunder and saw the snow. For a second it seemed that we were in some kind of alternate universe! But as you can see, our little light still shone through the whole thing. These pictures were taken over the last two days at different times. But you'll have to imagine the thunder!

"Listen to it! Listen to his thunder, the rolling, rumbling thunder of his voice. He lets loose his lightnings from horizon to horizon, lighting up the earth from pole to pole. In their wake, the thunder echoes his voice, powerful and majestic. He lets out all the stops, he holds nothing back. No one can mistake that voice-His word thundering so wonderously, his mighty acts staggering our understanding. " The Message Job 37

My gosh, Ginny. That first picture is incredible. I take it that it's from a newspaper headline. The guy, no jacket and an ice cream cone is just too much. I'm not crazy about thunderstorms, not being used to them. When the kids were young and scared I covered my fear by telling them the angels were running races in heaven. They seemed to like that. I was still scared. I probably would not do well residing in the midwest.

We have had that phenomena here at times ... it's almost surreal.

Beautiful photos!

WOW!!! We've never experienced that unusual event! That's incredible! It was obviously warm enough for just a shirt and even an ice cream cone, and then you got a dump of snow! Great photos Ginny! We love thunderstorms in the summer, but one in winter would be so freaky!! Yes, God's mighty acts stagger our understanding!

That's crazy...don't think I've ever heard that. You got some beautiful pictures.

I don't think I've actually ever seen or heard about that before. Hailstorms yes, but not the soft kind of snow...

That newspaper photo is too funny but it reminds me of AK and going out for ice cream when it was 10 below.

I have heard of thundersnow but haven't experienced it yet. It would be exciting.

Not sure which is more amusing..the guy in the paper running with the ice cream, or Phil standing there in all that snow with a broom and a paper!? That is so neat.. I love these snowy photos..especially the trees-it's just magic to me! I stare at it trying to imagine what it would be like to live in that kind of environment. Well Job is so fitting..incredible-

We had a little rumble of thunder a few days ago while it was snowing but nothing like the east coast has experienced. Your snow shots are beautiful. Tell Phil to zip up his jacket and bring out the big "guns". I don't think that broom is going to do the job!!

I especially like the lamp reflecting in the window.

Best,
Bonnie

I loved that picture of the snow through your window, with the lamp reflection! Yes, I have heard it thunder and seen the snowfall. Not this time - but in the past. We did not get snow here in the last few days. It was a gorgeous sunshiny day yesterday, in the afternoon especially.

Wow! That looks amazing. So cold and snowy for you folks. Hope Phil doesn't hurt himself with all the shovelling. Stay warm.

Hi Ginny, Apparently you got out snowstorm! We had a puny half inch two days ago! All of our snow is long gone - I have a green lawn and a clear dock for the first time in a while. Have a wonderful day today & stay safe and warm!

Hi Ginny, Please excuse the previous typo. I wrote "Out" when it was supposed to be "Our". Oh well... Have a super day!

We were threatened with thundersnow a few days ago, but it never happened. We have had thundersnow a time or two since we've lived here. It definitely does seem strange.

Like so many of the comments, I have never heard of Thundersnow either. Thunder and snow just doesn't compute with me. Terrific pictures Ginny. You really got a dumping.
The picture of the guy in shirtsleeves and his ice cream cone is a definite prize winner.
Love the verses from The Message.

It may look beautiful in photos but in reality winter is bitterly cold and treacherous. We have "monster snow storm" right now and we are already 20 inches deep. The snow banks are already reaching our roof.
