Good Things Come In Threes

Did you know that St. Patrick wasn't even Irish?

Did you know that he didn't really drive all the snakes out of Ireland, there never were any there to begin with?

Did you know that the color green is actually considered unlucky in Ireland? Green is the color of fairies, who steal children wearing too much green.

Did you know that in Chicago, they celebrate St. Patrick's Day by dyeing the Chicago River green? 40 tons of dye is used, which only keeps it green for a few hours.

In other late breaking green news, Pepsi has just made a bottle made entirely out of materials from plants. Coke has been trying to for a long time, but Pepsi apparently beat them to it. The pepsi bottle is made from grass, pine bark, and corn husks. Eventually they will use orange peels, potato scraps, and other leftovers from their Frito-Lay and Quaker snack foods. The bottles will cost the same and be test marketed next year.

I plan on eating this green bagel I bought, and giving the girls these cupcakes with Irish lucky coins and rings on them. Of course we all know that St. Patrick converted the Celts by using these shamrocks as the symbol of the triune God, since they have three leaves. They already worshipped the plant because three was a mystical number in their religion. They were on the right track, good things do come in threes!!

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18,20

I've never got into the whole St. Patrick's day celebration thing. I just read the one about Chicago yesterday, I had no idea they did that.

The cupcakes look yummy but I'm not so sure about the green bagel.

St Paddy was English as I remember, becomming a saint seems to also mean lots of legends get attached to your name as well. Oh well green is still my favorite color.

Great news about the pepsi bottle, recycled materials are great.

The cupcakes look delicious. I'm not sure about the green bagel however. Some things just should be dyed. My vote is out about the Chicago River. The first time I came upon it dyed green I thought it was pretty awesome.

Best,
Bonnie

I learned much from your blog today. I'm of Irish descent - but had no idea St. Patrick was not. Anyway - I think it's interesting to learn all of these facts. Green is a great color in the forest - but I'm sure glad my wife's skin color is NOT. ☻☻☻

I learned a lot this morning. The river does look amazing on St. Patrick's Day but I'd have reservations about the green bagel. Have a great day, Ginny. Blessings...Mary

That was fun trivia! But a green bagel is just strange. Like green beer, it's doesn't seem appetizing.

That green bagel doesn't look all that delicious to me.Perhaps it is because green is most definitely not a favourite color of mine, except when it is in foliage. Have a great day.

Wow....Missy! You have given me a lot of wisdom today that I did not know...I am thinking I might need to move to Ireland if there are NO snakes..{as I am deathly scared of the things}
You certainly have some pretty good looking food there. Cupcakes are my favorite.
Beautiful picture of the clover...
Have a Blessed Day and many hugs,
Shug

While I might be tempted to steal one of the cupcakes from the girls, I think I'll pass on the green bagel.
I hope you have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day and thanks for a great post.

And there you go again... THREE's > The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!

Happy St. Pat's Day..these look good! Wha..talk about spending all that fuss for the outside of the cup (lol)..gee! Well, I have my funny contradictions, so if I ever have one, it has to be Pepsi and over ice (cough)- in a glass (it helps not to think of the poison with all those delightful bubbles) ha ha. My parents and some family members took a trip to Ireland and seemed that was all they talked about were those leprechaun's and 4 leaf clovers (ha ha)- I doubt anyone really considers green unlucky?
May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.

Now I should make some cupcakes!
Enjoy your day Ginny~

For some reason I never knew that St Patrick's Day was celebrated in the US. I only knew about is as an Irish holiday. Pouring green dye into the river seems a completely insane tradition (in my humble opinion, lol)

The only fact I knew was about the Chicago River - I am from there and have seen it.

Happy St. Pat's Day!

Hi Ginny, What a bright post! Fun and useful facts. I can't believe you are going to really eat that green-dyed bagel? I do love bagels, mind you but, better you than me! : ) Kidding, of course.
Have a terrific St. Patrick's Day!

Ginny, No, di did not know all of those things...kind of takes the fun out of the day, doesn't it? Well, I never really 'celebrate' the day anyway but still...
thanks for an enlightening post!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Ginny! I love bagels - they are hard to come by here and the packaged ones in the store don't taste that good. I miss bagel shops!

Hope you had a wonderfully green day ;-)

Blessings,

What a marvelous read. So much here I didn't know; or maybe I forgot and learned it all again. Oh well, she shrugged.

Fascinating information about the Pepsi bottle. I'm a Coke girl but I would drink Pepsi just to have the total recycled experience.

Love the look of the loaf of bread at the top of the post. The green bagel? Hmmm, not so much.

Hugs,
Annie

Are you Irish? Green bagel!!!!! Was it food coloring or some natural plant? We have a plant my mum used to dye the cakes.

I didn't know about St Patricks not being Irish until I read your post.

Not much celebration here as the Brits are rather bias about the Stupid irish.

I didn't go to the memorial. Our school had a mini one.

I don't know about the green bagel... but anything else is ok... to be green... except for the Chicago River and they make that green each St. Patricks Day. Something about the really, really green water makes me think of slick and slimy stuff.
