Feathering The Nest

Here is my answer to yesterday's mystery picture. The mysterious soft ball is a nesting ball! If you're like me, the name still doesn't tell you anything! Well, I came across this in a wild bird store, and this ball is full of very soft fabric that birds can pull out to make their nests! They come in many shapes, and here is a nesting wreath, too. It has bits of all kinds of nesting materials, and even feathers. So when you buy one of these, you hang it in your yard, hopefully near a tree or bush. And in return, you may get a nest and some cute baby birds!

"Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything...But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold  on to our courage and the hope of which we boast."   Hebrews 3:3,6

Oh my gosh I thought for sure it was a cotton ball.

I go or have gone to bird stores and have never seen anything like that.

Ginny you bring us something new all the time and interesting!

These are so cool, I really like the nesting wreath. The only reason I knew about it was a couple of blogging friends showed some they had made and hung in their yards.

I think this is a great idea.

Good idea..when the birds around here run out of spider webs, they look to whatever they can find.

Very interesting, Ginny. A real treat for the birds, I'm sure.

Hoping you have a nice weekend and happy father's day to Phil.

A teacher hung two pine cone with seeds for birds. I took some old cones in my storage and made a pretend bird feeder and hung it in my room.

Oh boy is that the neatest thing to hang in the yard for the sweet birds to build their nests with. I will look for one of those great yard ornaments....

Hi Ginny, I have a home-made nesting material ball in my yard. What I did was take a suet feeding cage and stuffed it with dryer lint and a few cotton balls and pieces of cotton string. The birds like it and have taken some of it. Have a great day today!

Hi Ginny, I want to clarify that the suet cage is empty of suet and then filled with fluff-stuff. : )

I had no idea what it was...figured since I was late in seeing there was no need to guess since I could read the answer right here.

I'm playing catch up today so I saw the answer before the question. I have never seen anything like that before. How interesting. Did you buy one?

My Vegas post: We were part of a support team for one of the cars. My BIL and two of his Navy Seals friends were the drivers.

I've never heard of a nesting ball, but it's good they sell them now. I always brush and trim Gizzy outside by the lake and we leave a lot of hair behind for the birds to use in their nests...his fur is nice and soft (downy) so I know they must like it.

Hope you are feeling well, Ginny. Have a great weekend!

I have put out soft cotton balls and threads and other things for the birds and they never really like them... I guess they prefer the odd bits and pieces of paper and other things they find.

I enjoyed your recent posts so much. The nesting wreaths and balls were new to me. I also got a charge out of Harley and those precious strawberry pickers. Your pix were so interesting.
