The Second Little Pig

The first little pig built his house out of straw, the second little pig built his house out of sticks, and the third little pig built his house out of bricks. And what we have here is the second little pig's house. We saw this last weekend at a botanical garden. It is called "Meadowmorphosis" and was built by internationally renowned artist Patrick Dougherty. He has built over 175 stick sculptures all over the world, has a book out (Stickwork) with pictures of them, and was in People magazine for this reason. He uses trees and saplings right on the sight where he builds. He does not connect this sculpture in any way with the little pigs, but that is the first thing I thought of when I saw it. In the children's story, the little pig's mother told them,"Whatever you do, do it the best that you can because that's the way to get along in the world." The one who listened to his mother was saved. In a similar way, our Father tells us how to build houses, and whoever listens to him is truly saved.

"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was it's fall."
Matthew 7:24,27

The limits of creative know no bounds. I'll have to google the artist. He's new to me.

I agree that this stick house is very creative. I can see why you connected it to the nursery rhyme.

Love that little chorus with the actions - The foolish man built his house upon the sand and then The wise man built his house upon a rock! Was just reminded of this! Very creative stick houses!

That guy is really talented, Ginny... I think I've read something about Patrick Dougherty before. WOW--what talent he has. Thanks for sharing...

Where did you see the hogs/pigs?????? Perfect for your story ---and neat that you tied in the Bible Story with it.

I like the way they used the twigs. I once did a post on this too with the house up in smoke.

The kiwi fruit is a brown furry skin like an egg.

I like those houses, he is a very creative artist. His name sounds familiar, I must have seen it somewhere. I really like the way you tied his houses t to the story of The Three Little Pigs.

The little guys in your header are so cute.

Hi Ginny, Well, we know the Rock, doen't we? Of course you and I do! Great pictures of these stick structures. I also have admired similarly built furniture of Willow. Have a super nice day!

Really intriguing structure with the Ginny touch: connecting it to the beloved children's tale and the Scripture about the wise man and the foolish man!

I think those are wonderful. They remind me of Russian spires.

I love that story. Believe it or not - When I was a teen-ager there was a preacher in our church who specialized in preaching from Nursery Rhymes!

Extremely cute!
What fun this must have been....

Those things in my lake picture are tree stumps.... The water level is usually way above the tree stumps. When the lake is full, you can't even see them...the lake is at least 5 feet low..

Have a great weekend.....
