Gone Batty!

Today Ella and I made these bat cupcakes, I think she liked them. The next to last picture is Phil with bat ears in the science museum. In the last picture, Ella is hanging upside down to show you how bats sleep. When I was a little girl, I was out at twilight and a bat swooped down on my head. They aren't really attacking people when they do this, it's more likely that they are going after an insect near your head. They can catch well over a thousand insects an hour, mostly mosquitoes. That's why a lot of people around here have put up bat boxes. But a recent article in the paper now says that's not a good idea. Bats can inhabit your attic, they only need a quarter inch to enter, and they return to where they were born year after year. I say they should stay in their caves.

"I run to you, God; I run for dear life...
You're my cave to hide in, my cliff to climb.
Be my safe leader, be my true mountain guide.
Free me from hidden traps; I want to hide in you.
I've put my life in your hands.
You won't drop me, you'll never let me down."
Psalm 31 -  The Message

I just love your cupcakes, what an ingenious bit of fun that is!

You're having fun again with your little one! That's great! Good job on the cupcakes.

Not a good idea to allow bats into your house. Breathing in the guano can cause serious lung disease, etc. They should be professionally removed if an infestation has started.

Those bat cupcakes are just adorable, I'll bet they taste delicious. I like Ella's demonstration of a sleeping bat.

Several years ago we had our motor home set up near an old, abandoned farm house. There were bats living in the attic. We loved watching them fly out late in the evening. It was also fun to watch them dive for bugs. Can you tell I like bats?

the cupcakes are really cute, what fun to make them and EAT them. Ella makes a sweet cute bat! when the bats swoop close to me I scream a little LOL. i would never ever try to attract them, but i don't mind the few i see in our neighborhood. that is a great shot of the sweet little guy in the header. he actually looks cute

Don't know which I like better: Ella and her cupcakes or Phil and his ears!! Actually, I think your whole post is a little "batty"!!

Have a great weekend!

Best,
Bonnie

Cute cupcakes! I've always liked bats. I gave my dad a bat house for his birthday this year. He hung it on a tree, but hasn't checked to see if he has bats yet.

What cute cupcakes! I don't think I want anything that attracts bats even if they do eat mosquitoes! I've had them sweep down close to me on my evening walks and I didn't like it at all!

Bats must be the Halloween trend this year. Stella, one of our 3-year-old granddaughters told her mom she wants to be a bat for Halloween. Mom replied, "OK, you can be the baby bat and I will be the OLD bat!"

Loved this post, especially your and Ella's baking, Ella's bat demonstration and Phil's ears!

Hi Ginny, Your cupcakes are too cute for words - bet they also tasted yummy. Bats are quite wonderful animals. We have many here on our lake and I often stay out just to see the bats fly around eating up the bugs. Have a super good day today!

Love the cupcakes. Have never thought of making bat cupcakes, probably cause they totally freak me out (real bats) but these are so darn cute! Ella is just such a darling! As for the tea, yes I really love it. It's citrusy, kind of like a cranberry or raspberry tea would be. I only use one packet of spenda in the mug with two tea bags and I steep it probably 8 minutes or so. I have a large collection of dainty tea cups that I do love and do use but when I make this tea, I just want to hunker down and enjoy a full mug. Enjoy Ella and the cupcakes and Phil looks cute with "wings".

We have bats behind a shutter on our garage. We've tried to discourage their return, but so far have not been very successful.
I like both your cupcakes and Ella's demonstration.

You and I are so much alike, i am out on the patio each night watching them. I wish they would swoop closer to eat the mosquitoes that are eating me while out there.

I love how you are creating memories for grands by doing stuff with them. these bat cupcakes are sweet looking.

DO you remember when we had a bat in the house - it was so scary. I'm not sure i would like that around my hose or not! You looked like you had a lot of fun.

Yes, the have a bad stigma attatched to them but I know they are just spooky to look at. I'd like a bat or two and maybe a cave to keep one in to tackle all the mosquitos! Psalms is good Ginny- thanks

That's dumb..I forgot to say how cute Ella is and those cookies look fabulous! The bat in your header looks like he's coming for a bite!

You are so creative; love the cupcakes, and I'm sure they taste wonderful. Ella must have loved putting them together - and eating them!

"He won't drop me" . . . and that's a promise!

You were not traumatised by the bat? You must have been a very brave girl.

Great cupcakes. And they're chocolate... my favorite!! Love the pictures, Ginny. Nice bat wings, Phil!
When I was about 10 I captured a bat that had flown into our neighbors door, put it in a jar and pounded holes in the lid, and called him Barnabas. Needless to say, Barnabas didn't live any longer than 24 hours and yes, there was a funeral. Now, looking back, as I think about it... all I can say is EWWWW!

I don't think I've ever seen a bat in real life. I could eat one of those cakes, though! :)
