Black Friday

Today, we decided to go to the Black Friday doorbusters at midnight, maybe not the best idea! After an afternoon nap, we felt we were ready! The line was clean across the shopping center, necessitating police cars and uniformed officers standing at the door to prevent trampling. After getting in, the checkout lines snaked all the way around the store.  After all this, they didn't even have what we wanted.  After getting to bed around three A.M, we woke up and went grocery shopping, a nice surprise. This is what we should do every black Friday, because the grocery store was deserted, as you can see by my pictures. They had re-stocked with goodies and we had the whole place to ourselves! Now THIS was more like it!!!  Then we spent the rest of the day Christmas shopping, and there were still some good deals to be had. We ended up at KFC by 8:30, exhausted and hungry. It was deserted, too! Here is a reflection of us with the Colonel, and Phil enjoying his chicken. Actually, the best parts of the day were when we DIDN'T go along with the crowd!

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Romans 12:2

It's pretty scary when they have to have the police close by just in case of trouble, not my idea of fun shopping. I really like the deserted grocery story and KFC, that would have been nice. I'm glad you and Phil got some bargains and enjoyed yourselves .... and didn't get followed by the police.

Hi Ginny, It has been more than a quarter century since I have done any "Black Friday" shopping. Same for the day after Christmas. I just avoid those crowds like the plague. I don't particularly like big malls and am quite happy living in a small town. I was raised in the Los Angeles area so I have had my fill of big cities! Have a wonderful weekend!

Whew, one thing you won't ever catch me doing is Black Friday!

I do love the grocery store the day after Thanksgiving though. So peaceful :-)

your "police" story is nothing like i thought but it is a great story and one i would love. that is my kind of store and that is what Walmart looks like at 6:30 am on Saturday when i do the weekly shopping. LOVE KFC, now i want some. glad you had a great day and got some shopping done with out getting trampled and no ARREST from the pooolice.

Yikes,I don't think I could do that kind of shopping. Line-ups are not for me.

Always fun to read your posts, Ginny. Wow,a deserted grocery looks like my kind of place. I really hate crowded areas.

I have to admit that I lingered over the first photo--of the police cruiser--to see if either (or both) you or Phil were peering out from the back seat. Whew! I then continued. The next photos are why I prefer staying home on Black Friday (and most every day until Christmas)!! The grocery store would please me. It does look a little eerie, however.

Have a great weekend.

Best,
Bonnie

You are a brave, brave woman Ginny, and Phil is a brave man! I went out on black friday but only after the die hard crowd was home in bed... and even then it was chaos.
Great pictures!! You should be a reporter... lol

I skipped Black Friday this year. But I have been sitting here reading about all the fights. I can't imagine fighting over sheets! LOL.

This was a bad year for violence on Black Friday...it's amazing how greed stirred up whips the masses into a frenzy. I have never even thought about looking at what deals might be out there on Black Friday. I have no desire to join the masses in chaos. (c: Glad you survived. I'm in awe of people who can stay up all night like that and shop. I had one friend who had the funniest Facebook status's all night long as they moved from store to store. CRAZY world I tell you, CRAZY. Hope your weekend is restful

I absolutely hate crowds! My hubby got up early and went to get a good deal on a fridge...we need a new one so badly! He went to the store when it opened at 4am, came home and then went off to work at 11am. He was a tired puppy toward the end of the day! I should have gone grocery shopping yesterday! Now I want KFC! :O)
Blessings, Joanne

Totally stayed home on BF, we used to do it when there were bargains we wanted, but now... nope, it's too much madness for me!

Hi Friend, It totally shocked me to read that you two went shopping at midnight on Black Friday.... You could never ever catch me doing that--even for a 'special deal'.... Of course, I'm not a shopper --so that is nothing I would want to do anytime... ha ha

Grocery shopping on Black Friday is a good idea though, at least in your city...
Hugs,
Betsy

It is fun to grocery shop in an empty store. Too bad that there are so many folks willing to be trampled on. But I guess the bargains are worth it. I would never even try - you and Phil are very brave!

I love to leisurely walk thru the grocery aisles! Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Colonel, too! We stayed away from the stores this weekend.

It was hard this time to get the story just from looking at your pictures. Well, at least for me - I'm not sure I've even heard of Black Friday before, I had to look it up! We usually have sales after Christmas. I'm not fond of queues and crowds, I don't think I've ever been to a midnight sale.

Aww Ginny...you guys discovered the best...going against the crowds. here in Canada...we had somewhat of a black Friday but no where near the wild day and cut deals you guys had

Marie said...

That empty clean store is my kind of store. I'm glad you two made it through your shopping day safely.

The empty store is kind of eerie!! Loved those blue lamps, pretty...
And it was indeed a black friday here in Mumbai, it was 26/11, the day terrorists stormed the hotels 3 years ago...
Have a wonderful sunday Ginny:)

Canada is trying to copy the USA by also having Black Friday prices! I'm not one to join the crowds! Nor do I like shopping! It's enough that I have to do all our shopping alone now! I do love it when the stores are nearly empty though!! Looks like you had a fun adventure though - just the two of you!

Since I work in a grocery store I know exactly how deserted they were on black Friday. It was rather nice though I got a lot of work done without all the usual interuptions

I don't usually do the black Friday thing! I used to work at Sears, and had to work it. Ugh!

I do most of my shopping over the Internet as I have the gifts shipped directly to Colorado where my children and grandchildren live. They put the unopened boxes aside and I wrap the gifts when I visit. It is so easy and I avoid crowds.

PS: I did not stay at the Madonna Inn but I visited it and took all the photos you see on my blog, Ginny. It was a fun place to see!

Love the grocery store empty. Way to shop!!
I didn't even darken any stores this year. Of course we were away but its just too crazy for me.

If I have the option I will always take the less-crowded stores for shopping. You have the right Scripture for this too. Of course, I have come to expect that from you, friend.

Chatty Crone said...

I agree - I think I will take the grocery store. Gosh you and Phil were so BRAVE - I admire you!

My aren't you and Phil the brave ones. Good for you both. You did end up having a neat time and actually found empty stores! Terry worked for Radio Shack for a number of years after we were married and I would take him to work an hour before whatever time they opened and then hit some stores since I was up anyway! Never the ones with lines around the block, I don't want anything that much to do that, but obviously I am in the minority as the lines get longer each year, hehe Since he retired, never have done Black Friday, but my daughters love it!
