On The Willows

On the willows. there
We hung up our lyres
For our captors there
Required of us songs
And our tormentors mirth
Saying, sing us one of the songs of Zion

Lyrics to "On The Willows" from Godspell

Aren't these golden willows stunning? When I saw them, they almost literally took my breath away. As long as I have been taking pictures of trees, and love the willows, I have never seen any turn gold in the fall. How can that be? It made me think of these lines from one of my favorite songs, and from The Psalms. I am taking a computer break Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, so I will be back visiting and posting on Thanksgiving Day. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

“By the rivers of Babylon,
There we sat down and wept,
When we remembered Zion.
Upon the willows in the midst of it
We hung our harps.
For there our captors demanded of us songs,
And our tormentors mirth, saying,
“Sing us one of the songs of Zion.”
How can we sing the LORD’S song
In a foreign land?
If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
May my right hand forget her skill.
May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth “
Psalm 137

They truly are beautiful. When I go to Rochester in the fall these are turning color in the southern part of the state.

What stunning trees and such great photos! You must not have had too windy days for the leaves to still be on the trees like that! Seems around here when they change color, the winds arrive like clockwork to strip the trees bare. The gorgeousness doesn't stay on for long! Have a fabulous Thanksgiving week!

they are gorgeous trees. The house that my family lived in until I was 5 had a huge willow tree in the back yard and I loved that tree

We have a giant curly weeping willow tree and a regular weeping willow....I do not recall either of them turning colors. They are both certainly still green here. Hmmm, it is beautiful!

They are beautiful trees. I had never noticed them either until we moved to this neighborhood, several of our neighbors have them in their yards. But all of these lost their leaves in the last wind storm.

I love those high heel sneakers in your last post.

I don't think I've ever seen yellow willow trees either, Ginny. They look so beautiful! I remember you found other beautiful gold trees last year around this time of the year.

In case I don't get a chance to visit Thursday I am wishing you and your family a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving!

Ginny, What a stunning willow tree. I have never seen one turn this golden color either. You know I lived in Manasass, VA briefly for 3 months way back in 1979. We moved Veterans Day and left in a snowstorm in Feb, hehe. However, the point is we were coming from the NE where it was really cold when we left, the day after we moved into our rental home, I made a picnic in our backyard for my 2 little girls. It was beautiful weather and I was doubly blessed to basically see the foliage twice that year. Once in NY state and again in VA. I think HE knew it would be 20 years before I saw foliage season again. Wanted to stop by and wish you and your beautiful family a very beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for being a special friend in blogland.
