The Pinwheel Garden

We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today. ~Stacia Tauscher

While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about.
~Angela Schwindt

I could not let the month go by without showing you the Pinwheel Garden. I took these shots in the rain earlier this month. Did you know that pinwheels are the symbol for child abuse prevention? And April is Child Abuse Prevention month. Come to think of it, when I see a pinwheel, I think of a happy child running and playing. And this is indeed what the pinwheels are trying to convey. Evey child deserves to be safe and happy. Do you have childhood pinwheel memories?

“Jesus called them back. “Let these children alone. Don’t get between them and me. These children are the kingdom’s pride and joy. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.”
Luke 18

I remember running across the yard to make the pinwheel spin. The lawn full of pinwheels is beautiful. I did not realize they were being used to symbolize child abuse.

i like that garden, beautiful and the rain drops make it prettier. i did not know about the child abuse thing and i did play with pinwheels as a child. i did not know they still make them, i don't go in the children's dept so don't see things like when i had small kids.... your blog is so cheerful, it looks like the header exploded all over the background. i like it

I didn't know about the pinwheel but the reason it is there is wonderful--beautiful. Someone asked me once if I spanked my children. "No I told them. I wouldn't hit a stranger. Why would I hit the people that I love the most?" Is that "garden" in Harrisonburg? That's what the buildings look like. Maybe Staunton?

Best,
Bonnie

How fun Ginny, I can see how this caught your eye. Someone had great vision - God's Word is always great vision for us, isn't it?

I have seen places do this before. It's so neat!

The strawberry festival/chili cookoff is going on in Roanoke this weekend, if you're interested. It's downtown.

Neat!!! I enjoy Pinwheels... Our neighbors (the ones who are moving) got tired of the critters eating their flowers a couple of years ago. SO--they made their little round flowerbed into a Pinwheel display. They bought all different shapes and sizes--and some of them are even lit.... Pretty!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

I didn't realize that pinwheels were a symbol for child abuse prevention. Like you, I associate pinwheels with children happily playing. I like your photos of this pinwheel garden.

Hi Ginny, how neat! I never knew the pinwheel was a symbol for Childhood abuse prevention. What a great idea for a garden. I usually put a few in to detract critters from my veggie garden...now I love pin wheels even more because of this post! Thank You!
Blessings, Joanne

I didn't know that pinwheels were used as a child abuse symbol. Interesting and very fitting. I do remember having pinwheels when I was a kid

Never heard of them as symbol, and I never saw as many of them together as in your photo. I remember them from childhood, I associate them with markets and fun fairs (which I did not get to visit very often so when one did, it was special)

Hi Ginny - I loved pinwheels as a child. That is a great garden. Thanks for visiting my blog. You indicated that you are Mennonite - I have so much respect for Mennonites. I read a book about a Mennonite woman who left her faith, then returned and she wrote about her faith and family and I felt like we have much in common. You asked what church I attend - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - "Mormon." Have a great day. I enjoy visiting your blog!

Hi Ginny,
I wanted to answer your question about the mall. It is online and will have lots of stores where you can buy things. Most will be items for pets but there will be other stuff too. A lot of it will be handmade stuff.

Wow what a beautiful garden! These pinwheels look like real flowers! The ones with rain dew - just so precious! I didn't know they are symbol of child abuse prevention. But they do give me image of children playing and running with smile on their face :-)

One of my kitties love to play hide but he is not good at hiding as he thinks. He is so cute :-)

Love pinwheels. I think even today, if I was at a carnival, I would love to carry a pinwheel around with me.

That garden is outstanding. I've never seen its like.
