Out Of The Blue

Orchids can enthrall, but a weed bouquet in a chubby fist, yes, that says it all. ~ Author Unknown

Here is the answer to yesterday's orchid post. These Blue Mystique Orchids are not nature's color, they are a fraud. But they are not dyed or painted either! The Sliver Vase Company has developed a special technique to turn these white Phalaenopsis orchids blue.  The process took many years to develop. They inject a medium at the base of the flower spike which is carried all the way up the stem. As it re-blooms, the orchid will gradually turn white again. Of course, many serious orchid breeders do not like this fooling Mother Nature and will not let it enter shows. What do YOU think? Would you enjoy it just as much knowing it is partly man made?

“Then God planted a garden in Eden, in the east. He put the Man he had just made in it. God made all kinds of trees grow from the ground, trees beautiful to look at and good to eat. The Tree-of-Life was in the middle of the garden, also the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil.”
Genesis 2

These "blue" orchids were the first thing I saw at the grocery store today--waves of them. I thought they were garish!! I have three naturally beautiful orchids sitting in the window beside me right now. I much prefer them.

Best,
Bonnie

Beautiful photos and Scripture. Thanks so much for sharing, Ginny.

We keep manipulating flowers all the time, not sure why a temporary manipulation should be worse than a permanent one as long as it's declared for what it is.

What an interesting process. I wouldn't mind as long as I knew what I was looking at, it is still beautiful. It's the dyed flowers in the grocery store that I don't like, the dye will sometimes rub off on my hands.

nope, I say leave them alone, Gods versions are beautiful enough, pretty blue though, lol,

Guess I have to be the odd man out, because I think they're beautiful! Of course, blue is my favorite color...

Those are gorgeous. That is really a beautiful blue. Isn't mother nature great.

i vote to let mother nature color the flowers, i see odd colors of flowers in Walmart all the time, colors that are man made. to me they look fake like plastic flowers. but for people who love them i have no problem with that. i just would not want them for myself. like i saw brown tomatoes and i could not make mself buy one to eat it. i want my tomatoes red.

It is a gorgeous shade, but I can see why some don't want it in the shows.

Wow seriously? I can't believe they are man made color! It looks very natural to me. I think it's fine as long as they do not hide it's man made color. But I understand, too, that breeders won't want it to enter the show.

I am a purist at heart and prefer God's creations myself. But also he gave us the know-how to improve upon their color so I say whatever floats one's boat...

Although these are interesting and pretty to see (once), I don't think you can improve on Mother Nature.

I don't have any problem as long as we know how they came about.... They are beautiful.

This kind of stuff is going on in every aspect of life. Look what we put up with on Blogger and Facebook... People enhance/change photos all of the time these days making them into something they really aren't... Most of us like that ---so why complain about the 'flower people' doing the same kind of thing...????

Again ---as long as we KNOW...

Hugs,
Betsy

it would make no difference to me where it got it's color from. It's still a very pretty orchid

P.s....about the mushrooms on my blog...they are morels. Very expensive to go buy. But soooo delicious. There is not much else that looks like them....there is a false morel, but there is no doubt when it is one or the other.

It is beautiful, for sure! I love color, so I would say I'd love them to look at but I don't believe they should be eligible for entry into flower shows though. I like God's own colors best... ;-)

I didn't know that - how interesting - well I do believe God gave us the ability to make colors out of the colors he gave us. Sandie
