Still Here

“Health - what my friends are always drinking to before they fall down.”  ~Phyllis Diller

“Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live for days on nothing but food and water.”  ~W.C. Fields

“What's drinking?
A mere pause from thinking!”
~George Gordon, Lord Byron

Well, my mystery picture is a still! Many of you guessed it! This particular one is not the Baldwin sisters  recipe machine, it is one that was confiscated locally and is just like it. It resides in The Waltons museum. This one is a real working machine, all ready to go. Moonshining was the only way many had of supporting their families, and it was looked on as a kind of talent, like faith healing and water dowsing. It is still practiced today in some areas, and people take pride in their "recipes".

“In any event, keep a close check on yourself. And don’t worry too much about what the critics will say. Go ahead and drink a little wine, for instance; it’s good for your digestion, good medicine for what ails you.”
1 Timothy 5

Once in college some guys brought up some moonshine and it smelled just like rubbing alcohol! Needless to say I didn't taste it. However whenever I watched The Walton's they always made it seem that the Badwin sisters were making something yummy. Great pictures

The Baldwin sister were two of my favorite characters on the Walton's.
Unlike Joanne I did take a tiny taste of some "shine" back in college. I thought my throat was on fire, never again. I love those jars in your header. Wonder what's inside? LOL!

this is so cool... when we lived in the hills in KY we were told if you are walking in the woods and see one of these, keep walking and never say you saw it, that could be dangerous to your health. that was back in the early 50's and i know they are still there.... i love the jars in the header.

Yep....moonshine it is! I've heard a lot of folks talk about the moonshine
that used to be made, back in the day. Sounds a bit dangerous to me.

have a safe and happy day.

We're in the moonshine capital of the US where we live. It's often at potlucks and such - believe it or not. Crazy!

I knew it had to be a still. I'm wondering if all those canning jars are filled with a bit of moonshine :)
