The Halloween Flower

Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.  ~Kahlil Gibran

Here are some Calla Lilies from around here. Have y0u ever seen one? Their origin is Africa and they are not a real lily. They are very popular at weddings. Also funerals, where they are known as a symbol of death. They are said to restore the innocence of the departed soul. That must be why they have always been pretty creepy to me. A beautiful subject for Halloween. And actually, the meaning associated with the name of the flower is magnificent beauty.

"God made the heavens— Royal splendor radiates from him, A powerful beauty sets him apart."
Psalm 96

I was going to say I'm not sure I've seen any other colour of callas than white, but had second thoughts before I posted the comment... Realizing that the pink/red ones we call flamingos here must be callas as well. I've had some of those as indoor pot plants.

And I love this quote:

I so believe this and I think it is so true.

I do like how these flowers look. I have even tried growing them myself, but it wasn't worth the effort. Just had two small blooms.

Loved the flowers and their colors. Lots of folks I know think don't like carnations cause they are used a lot for floral arrangements at funerals.

I however have seldom found a flower I didn't like.

Absolutely beautiful, Ginny! This is one of those few times that I actually know what the flower is called. :)
