Real American Beauties

When I saw these berries, my eyes almost popped out of my head! I had never seen berries with a color like this! And yes, this is their actual color! Their name is American Beauty Berries. Really! So whoever named them must have felt the same way I did upon first seeing them. They make a good jam, and when you break up the leaves and rub them on yourself, it is an insect repellent. Since they are so beautiful, I made you a kaleidoscope of them!

“As gold comes from the northern mountains, so a terrible beauty streams from God.”

Thanks for sharing these Ginny, they are beautiful. I have seen something similar but they are a darker purple and not sure if they are the same anyhow. Interesting about the leaves being insect repellents. Thanks for visiting my bee post and yes we do have honey bees around here. In fact I buy honey from a local bee keeper.

I've tried growing these in my garden but I fear I live in too cold a climate!

What a gorgeous color!!! And if you get a double comment from me, feel free to delete one. I am having a horrible time with blogger and commenting. It is taking me forever...both yesterday and today.

It is hard to believe that that is the true color. Never seen anything like them before.

They grow wild in Texas in the woods. We never tried to eat them.

They are so lovely they don't seem quite real. But God's blessings can be so spectacular that we just consider them with amazement.

I have these in my backyard but never knew they were edible. I know the mockingbirds love them!

I learned something new. Insect repellent, can always use that.

Purple berries! Can they be eaten, Ginny? They are really beauties... how do they taste? I must ask my sister next time!

I've seen those things before --but never knew their name. I also didn't know that we can make jelly or can use the leaves as an insect repellent. Good information. Thanks!

Betsy
