Surgery In A Few Hours

Here on this Friday morning I am going into the hospital for a biopsy and an endoscopy. The fact that it will be Halloween, and that Joan Rivers died from this same procedure has not escaped my attention. But I also know that God is in control of everything and I am in His hands. Anyway, all the medication will make me forget everything that has happened and that will happen until sometime on Saturday. So until I am back, enjoy the 860 pound pumpkin!

Heavy

Welcome to the return of The Pumpkin Man! Remember when I showed you the man a few blocks away who grew big pumpkins in his back yard? Well, he has harvested them and moved them to his front yard! Look at how HUGE they are!!

Luckily, he came out of the house when he saw me and my camera; he loves to talk about his pumpkins. The big one in the sling is over 800 pounds. It won first prize at the N.C. County Fair, netting him over a thousand bucks. He built this pulley thing in order to move it. Some of the others are 600 pounds. He belongs to a pumpkin growing club. SO, that is his story! He will be on our T.V. news this week!!

“This Absalom…When he cut his hair—he always cut it short in the spring because it had grown so heavy—the weight of the hair from his head was over two pounds!”

What The Cats Saw

It was twilight after my cat interviews, and it had started to get dark. So I stuck around to see what the cats saw in the dark with their super night vision. The cats had been hoping for a few bites of turkey, but they were too scared to mess with the giant one in the fourth picture. Hissing and spitting was heard. I never actually heard them admit that these were better than their decorations, but I did hear lots of growling and mumbling. You know how decorators are...

The Cat Decorators

The cats in our neighborhood are very proud of their Halloween decorating this year. And they have agreed to let me photograph their creations! So, let's start with a cat a few blocks away who has chosen the pirate look!

Next, this cat has chosen the simplicity of just two pumpkins.

This cat has gone all out by lining all the steps with pumpkins! He asked me to report that he achieved his look, but his paws are quite sore.

This cat has chosen a lighted wreath in hopes that it will draw some moths.

This black cat has kept a few large ferns around, in hopes of jumping out of them at night to scare the children. Trick-Or-Meow!

This cat proudly shows his beautiful flag.

This kitty sharpened his claws on a piece of felt, and made this lady pumpkin.

This cat got very elaborate and made a large piece or artwork!

In a last minute surprise, a few dogs thought they would try some decorating. This turned out badly, and ruined the whole fall theme. This German Shepherd was not in a good mood, and just scattered some pumpkins around.

And the next two dogs were rather vain, and put out flags of their own photos instead of fall themes, thus ruining the flow of the whole neighborhood.

A Puff Of Air

On my last post, I showed you these thistles and asked what happens to them when they die.

They turn into puffs, and fly away.

It's hard to believe that I have lived this long, and have never noticed this.  So this was my first time seeing this.

“I wonder why you care, God— why do you bother with us at all? All we are is a puff of air; we’re like shadows in a campfire.

Psalm 144

Again, I will not be visiting today. This is because I have a doctor appointment in a large hospital out of town. And while I am there, we have a couple friends who are patients, we will be visiting them. See you soon!

An Uncommon Beauty

I have always thought that thistles are beautiful in their own way. A way that is tough, and survives to create a hard beauty. But have you ever wondered what becomes of them in the fall? Any guesses? I will show you on my next post! This is the first fall I have noticed them dying, and I was quite surprised.

I had a freak accident with my lap desk tonight, so will be unable to visit for the next few days, until the new one comes in the mail. Freak Accident is becoming my middle name!

“All the trees of the forest will join the procession, exuberant with applause. No more thistles, but giant sequoias, no more thorn bushes, but stately pines— Monuments to me, to God, living and lasting evidence of God.”

Stuff

I love decorating for Fall! I don't have any lights or big statements, but I do have lots of little things around the house. So here are some of my things that are scattered around the house now. This little angel has fall leaves for wings. She guards the T.V.

Here is Anne Marie as a kitty on one of her first Halloweens.

Here are a few of my kitchen shelves.

My green pumpkin, which is made from thin wood that is curved.

My turkey dish, which has three compartments. I have it on the kitchen counter with sugar, creamer, and candy corn in it.

I recently fund these acorn bells to hang on a doorknob

This is hanging on my fridge.

And this is on my front door, on the inside.

Here is the owl I just found at C.V.S for half price. He perches on a basket of papers.

This hangs on a small living room wall

I have this rack of fall mini plates hanging in the kitchen.

And this pumpkin on a cabinet.

I just found this candle really cheap at Rite Aid.

There's lots more, but by now you are either bored to death or want to smash the computer screen. So Happy Fall!

Nervous At Hobby Lobby

Next to our parked car at Hobby Lobby, we spotted these two cuties. They were clearly nervous and shaky. But then, when is a Chihuahua not ...
