Horsing Around

The Horse Chestnut trees were just in bloom. They live almost forever! The oldest one in the world is in Sicily, and believed to be between 2,000 and 4,000 years old. Here is one a few blocks away from us.

“When Methuselah was 187 years old, he had Lamech. After he had Lamech, he lived another 782 years. Methuselah lived a total of 969 years. And he died.”
Genesis 5

I don't think I have ever seen one in bloom. It's so pretty. I had no idea they could live that long either. That is one hardy tree

It is amazing that these trees live for as long as they do, how wonderful is that? Your photos are pure delight Ginny.

Can you imagine? I love going to the California Redwoods and seeing the giant redwoods and sequoia trees. I did not know about the Horse Chestnut trees so I doubt we have any in Texas.....but maybe we do.

I love to eat these chestnuts but I have never seen the tree nor the flowers. The flowers are very pretty.

My goodness...the one in Italy is OLD!!! Incredible.

They resemble the crepe myrtle blossoms.
