It was late when we happened to drive by the pond. And this is what I was shocked to see.
The Canada Geese were there sleeping. Turns out that geese sleep in the water, with a few taking turns to guard through the night. Predators can't get to them without making a lot of warning splashes, so they are safer. Here is another night visitor, the Blue Heron. He does not sleep in the water, so maybe he was having a fishy bedtime snack.

Interesting to know that Canada Geese sleep on water! The Blue Heron looks like a wise old man with its long flowing beard (chest feathers).
I love seeing the geese asleep on the water like that...Big Blue was out a bit late, it seems.
I saw 20 of these geese in the church yard last week, we were shocked to see them there and if they try sleeping in the ponds here, gators might eat them...

Around here, predators are even in the water. Actually, after reading about the geese sleeping in water, I wonder where they go at night in South Texas.
