Side Of The Road Saturday

Around here, there are always interesting things that people put in front of their houses. Whether it is junk, or free, or trash, it all interests me. Here we have a toilet. I think I will just leave it be.

This table looks really nice, and now I wonder why I didn't take it!

This dresser is not too bad, but I wonder what it looks like inside the drawers?

A couch actually in the road! They must have wanted to get rid of it bad.

Vacuums, likely broken.

And the strangest thing I have ever seen out front, a real stoplight! How would someone have even acquired this?

Let me live in my house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by—
They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong,
      Wise, foolish—so am I.
Then why should I sit in the scorner's seat
      Or hurl the cynic's ban?—
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

Makes me think...one man's junk is another man's treasure. For me, not so much.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the poem. wow... this is a very common sight here, we have city pick up, really large things like washers or sofas they add 10.00 to the bill for pick up, but the other stuff they pick up for free. if we sit anything in our driveway, it is gone by morning of the next day... we often talk about back when we needed furniture, because no money, we could have furnished our house with things they throw out now. once we saw two matching leather sofas just like ours sitting on the curb... the thing about picking up things on the side of the road, watch out for bedbugs and roaches

I rarely find good things curbside like some people do. That table does look really nice and if the dresser is sturdy I've seen people turn them into amazing entertainment centers so the drawers wouldn't be necessary.
As for the stoplight, not only would I be curious about how they got it but wouldn't it be a bit illegal to try and sell it.

Is it possible to buy a stoplight like that? Interesting that they are selling it! Maybe it is an older model? Where would you use it? :)

I'm not sure anyone in our area can put stuff out by the road... They are SO picky about things like that. They even have stiff rules of how you can put your trash out.... I guess I am happy about the rules since we do live in a very nice area... I am sad though that we cannot have clothes lines in the yard. I always loved to hang my washed sheets on the line outside to dry. SMELLS so good....

By the way, I saw your comment on Shug's post about Google+ going away. You need to change your profile back to Blogger...

Hugs,
Betsy

I can't believe the things that people throw out. It is fascinating to curb shop. Always take a hammer and screw driver in your car, just in case, ya know!

I have seen many strange things for sale, but never a stoplight. I am going to start getting out more and see what strange things are here.

Why don't they call Goodwill? And the stoplight they probably got illegally! lol

Are they suppose to dispose the furnitures this way?

We have recycling companies that is willing to come and pick up used furniture for up cycling.

That stoplight is quite eye catching! And it’s for sale :-D Wonder it’s sold by now!

I think I could go for a month and not see half this stuff.

I love that poem...have heard it before but cannot think where.

You really do have to wonder how and why someone would have the traffic lights in their possession.

HA! We have similar stuff that is set out for FREE.. but I have not seen a traffic light. HA!

Here if you happen to his a pole with a traffic light on it and it needs replacing YOU have to pay for that. Could be he wants to recover his loss? We have to call a junk company for big items most of the time though we do have a pick up schedule for large items twice or so annually. Nice poem.

A great poem, the first time I have seen it.

I am also interested in what's left at the side of the road. We have a neighborhood app called Next Door, and people often put on there what they are leaving in front of their house. What people don't take the rest goes with the garbage.

I too have seen all kinds of trash but not a spotlight. We have people coming by to collect things that they can sell as recyclables. I had just disposed a burnt out vacuum cleaner just before the New Year and it was gone in a short while.
