Sunday Sunspots

I call them sunspots, because that's what they look like. Not rainbows, but spots. Most people call them Sundogs or Mock suns. Their scientific name is Parhelia. They usually appear toward the end of the day when the sun is closer to the horizon. Here are a few that I have seen over the last few years.

“Look up and behold Heaven's gallery of art, with its countless, ever-changing, golden pictures of beauty, illuminating the gorgeous curtain of ethereal blue.”

Beautifully captured and well spotted. I haven’t noticed one of these in years.

What beautiful photos of the sunspots! I love the shape of cloud in second and third photos, too.
I think my coworker once referred sunspots as Sundogs :-)

I have never really known what they were called before. I like the term sundog. It sounds like a story that Native Americans might have told.

I call them sundogs as well. This past winter I have even seen them around midday, but it has been exceptionally cold's that may be the reason. They sure do make lovely pictures.

I've heard them called sundogs before. I don't think I have ever noticed one before. I need to pay more attention. They are really pretty and I especially love the look of the first picture with that beautiful blue sky
