Bad Photos Of A Bird

A couple weeks ago we saw a new bird, one we had never seen before. I was at a loss to identify it, so sent it to master birding blog friend Anni. She can identify anything! Turns out it is a juvenille Black-Crowned Heron!! It was behind a fence in a remote place impossible to get to, so here is the best I could do.

This photo from the web gives you a much better look. This bird hides and lounges in the day, and comes out at night to hunt and eat. Likely becaise there is too much competition from other Herons and Egrets in the daytime.

Another photo from the web shows you what this bird looks like when it is fully grown. Quite a difference, isn't there? The juvenilles sometimes look nothing like the adults.

Nyctophilia –    An attraction to darkness or night. Finding relaxation in the dark. The condition of being very happy and comfortable in the dark: Nyctophilia is a condition that makes you want to sit in the dark all by yourself late at night, wide awake.

Beautiful! I love the baby and wouldn't have known what it was either. Of course I recognize the adult since he looks just like Bird that lives in my back yard! I think you got some great shots Ginny. :)

I think your photo is beautiful. i love the bokeh yellows that pull attention to the bird. what a difference as an adult. in fact I have seen one like the juvenile but never like the adult, but had no clue what it was. exciting.

I think you did a good job of getting a picture of that juvenile heron.

Poor little fella, he isn't very eye-catching yet, is he? -smile-

We are both "into yellow" today!!!! πŸ’›πŸŒΌπŸŒ»πŸŒΌπŸ’›

Some people like the dark, and what-we-call-gloomy-days. But I'd not call them, that full description. -smile-

Your photos are excellent Ginny. Isn't it interesting that juvenile birds turn out so different when they become an adult? My dear husband says I am borderline on the Nyctophilia. I love to sit in the dark at night but the seeds were sown early when my father used to turn all the lights off when we were watching TV, to save on the electric bill :) Nowadays we can say we are saving energy for the planet :)

Fabulous pictures! I never knew this, but I think I'm a Nyctophiliac. I enjoy quiet times at night.

Hi, I just wanted to come back here to let you know that my stint with Wordpress was not thought out well and I am back at Blogger. I know that Blogger isn't perfect but I will do my best to work with it. See you back on Blogger.

Interesting looking bird. I think your picture of the juvenile you took turned out pretty well--not bad at all.

What a charming bird! I love that he turns so gorgeous when full grown. I love nighttime but do not have nyctophilia ... haaahaha when it's dark and cool, I just want to sleep. xoxo
