The Wild Ones

Behold Wild Columbine, also known as Red Columbine. Until I saw this, I had only seen the fancy cultivated kind, and had no idea there was a wild variety! Here is the cultived fancy kind I have snapped.

And here is the Wild Red that I just discovered! It was in someone's yard a few houses away.

Quite a difference, isn't there? Having five petals in the wild, the columbine flower was said to relate to foolishness because of its physical resemblance to a jester's five-pronged cap. Did you know the bible describes at least five kinds of fools?

“Fools find no pleasure in understanding, but delight in airing their own opinions”

 Proverbs 18:2

Great post Ginny, I like the story behind the flowers. I have a pink and purple columbine, my grandpa loved columbine, so they remind me of him.

The cultivated fancy flower is beautiful but the wild ones are pretty too in their own way.

They are both lovely. I've heard so much about them, but I'm not sure if I've seen them in the wild or in a garden.
