Some end up on the wires but most are just tossed on the ground. This has been happening for over 20 years. Occasionally they are picked up and disposed of but more take their place. There was even an article in the Chicago Tribune about the site recently. We drive that way into the city and I always take a look. Most of them look like shoes in good repair. I can think of two places here in Walla Walla where the shoes are on the lines. <br /><br />My husband works for a power company. He asked one of the linemen if they ever remove the shoes.
