Dressed To Kill

Remember awhile ago; when I posted this skelton & his dog in my pain doctor's office waiting room?

Today he and his dog are all dressed up for Christmas, waiting to greet each patient as they came through the door.

The Dachshunds

Quite a few people around these parts have Dachshund Christmas decoraitons. Just look at who is driving Santa's sleigh!

“Dachshunds are ideal dogs for small children, as they are already stretched and pulled to such a length that the child cannot do much harm one way or the other.”

The Wal-Mart Trip

We went to Wal-Mart yesterday, and I found these cute leggings with Corgi dogs on them. AND they were only $4.44.

And we bought something else that was just a WEE bit more than $4.44. Have you ever heard of a stuffed waffle maker?

You can stuff the waffle with sweet or savory. I'm thinking of a pizza waffle, a s'mores waffle, a chicken parm waffle. It comes with a recipe book.

I never knew such an appliance existed! Did you?

Did you know that fairies used to ride on the back of Corgis into battle? And did you know that fairies used Corgis as multi-purpose work and farm dogs in their magical kingdom?

Well, it’s all true…that is, if you believe in Welsh folklore.

The Deep Purple

We went up on the hill this evening because it looked like there may be a pretty sunset. There wasn't, but there were still lovely sights. The sky turned a deep purple, with pink vapor trails.

Venus came out.

We passed the angels on the way home. It was twilight and their candles were lit.

“When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to flicker in the sky
Through the mist of a memory you wander back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh.”

The Angels

Just a few blocks away from home, we drove by this today.

The Angels. There were so many that they turned the corner and continued around the block. They were in front of what used to be the Catholic Church, but is now The Applacian Christian School.

Some of them had halos, and some did not. It was a mystery.

Fortunately, a couple people were out standing by the door, and we asked them. Each angel is a student at the school and their family. The ones with halos were in memoriam for those family members who had passed away. I'm glad there weren't very many with halos.

“For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment.”

The Ginkos

Just a few weeks ago, the Ginko trees were changing color. I like to post them every year. They are living fossils, having survived the Jurrasic period and existing unchanged for 270 million years.

This is a fossil of a ginko leaf, from millions of years ago.

They can grow for thousands of years. There is one in China that is 3,500 years old.

Four Ginkos survived the Hiroshima bombing. They were charred, but still live today.

You can tell them by their fan shaped leaves. Ginkos have no relatives, they are one of a kind.

We can learn a lot from trees: they're always grounded but never stop reaching heavenward.

Purple Reign

Driving home from snapping the sunset, I saw these purple lights around the corner. We went to check them out. They were on the railing of ...
