September 21 was the International Day of Peace. And this was when we saw these pinwheels in front of an elementary school, many under large old trees.
π Pinwheels for Peace is a global art
installation project that began in 2005, in Florida. It was designed as a way
for students to express their thoughts and feelings about peace, both in the
world and in their personal lives.
Students create colorful pinwheels decorated with messages, drawings, or symbols of peace. They are then “planted” in public spaces—like school lawns, parks, or community centers. They are planted on World Peace Day, September 21st.
“A pinwheel spins not with wind
alone, but with the hope of every hand that placed it.”

Lovely photos of this magnificent project, Ginny.
What a neat program this is.
That's a great installation! The location under those trees is very pretty.
beautiful display and good for the students to create them and learn about peace.
Such a positive, encouraging practice, Ginny. I had never heard of this celebration, but I'll remember it in the future.
What a fun and positive thing to do. I love it!
Beautiful !
A very peaceful demonstration! :)
What a nice and creative idea. And even more so that the children make these pinwheels by themselves with messages and drawings. We do need more peace in the world, so this day is special. I like that third picture of the big old tree bending over, and the pinwheels showing in the distance.
