Spring Coffee Corner

I like to decorate for the seasons, and that includes our coffee corner. Here it is now for Spring. I wonder how many of you are drinking coffee right NOW?

I want to hear the simmer
Of the old coffee pot;
I want to hear it hummin'
When it's gettin' good and hot;
I want to see the vapor rise,
Like incense in the room,
And float about a-fillin'
Every corner with perfume.

No Grass

This house is a couple blocks away, and I try to post it every year. Why? Because they have no grass or lawn in their front yard. It is filled with tulp bulbs. The yard does not look good for most of the year, but it really shines for a few weeks in the spring. Here it is now

I fought the lawn and the lawn won.

Tickled Pink

Tonight was the Full Pink Moon. It is also a super moon. Watch it with me as it rises over the mountains. I have just returned from snapping it.

Not pink enough for you? How about this.

The color of frivolity lives between red and white. Pink takes all the passion and energy of red and tempers it with the purity of white, leaving us with the color of tenderness and affection.

The Fist

Last night I snapped the sunset. What does a fist have to do with that? You shall see! Watch it with me.

The fist is this following picture. To me, it looks like a fist is holding the sun, and the fingers are wrapped around it. Do you see it, or do I need therapy?

Bad Photos Of A Bird

A couple weeks ago we saw a new bird, one we had never seen before. I was at a loss to identify it, so sent it to master birding blog friend Anni. She can identify anything! Turns out it is a juvenille Black-Crowned Heron!! It was behind a fence in a remote place impossible to get to, so here is the best I could do.

This photo from the web gives you a much better look. This bird hides and lounges in the day, and comes out at night to hunt and eat. Likely becaise there is too much competition from other Herons and Egrets in the daytime.

Another photo from the web shows you what this bird looks like when it is fully grown. Quite a difference, isn't there? The juvenilles sometimes look nothing like the adults.

The Ship

I may have posted this mural on a fence previously. But if so, we were driving too fast past it. This time we happened to be stopped and I got a few good shots. The tree is real, and not part of the mural.

You can barely see the lady with the parasol walking past, so I cropped it to give you a better look.

Around The Valley

We live down in the Shennandoah Valley, and have had a few appointments out of town lately. So here are our trips to Harrisonburg and Charlottesville in the last week. Both are about a half hour away.

In The Pink

Passing a community college on Saturday, we saw this out front.

Driving around the building, we saw even more pink pinwheel gardens.

One red one among the others.

Going inside, we saw even more through the windows.

There were no signs of explanation anywhere. I know that blue pinwheels represent child abuse, but could not find on the web what pink might mean! And it is not breast cancer month, so I am clueless!

Who has seen the wind?

Neither I nor you:

But when the leaves hang trembling,

The wind is passing through.

Who has seen the wind?

Neither you nor I:

But when the trees bow down their heads,

The wind is passing by

More Love

I have new LOVE signs for you. Different LOVE signs are placed all over Virginia. This is because our state motto is "Virginia Is For Lovers." Today we saw this one, but could only snap it from the back!

We saw this new one today, also. In a nearby city.

A few blocks from home, we passed this very old LOVE sign by the river. It is made from fishing supplies (a reel, actual fish, boots, etc.) I posted it many years ago and now it is in disrepair, as the E has fallen off and was nowhere to be seen!

Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel…

Matchy Matchy

You may remember awhile ago, I posted a photo of this huge mural on the side of a nearby building. It kind of overlooks the city. I have no idea what the signifigance of the girl with the tulip hair is, or who she is.

Well, they have just planted a long row of tulips at the base of the mural, and they are the same color as the ones in the mural!

Wild Violets

The wild Violets are growing in yards everywhere now! They are so sweet. We have quite a few in our yard, and I hate for them to be mowed d...
