A Fishy Shopping Tale

I had just donated something to Goodwill, and I spotted this in the donation center

A little round white bookcase shaped like a fishbowl, with fish on the sides. I was delighted! I asked if they would put a price sticker on it and bring it out on the floor. They did, and we bought it! Of course, it goes in the girl's playroom. It is all wood and very heavy. Not bad for six dollars.

The cats love it, and think it's their new toy. They like to chase each other around and through it.They will probably like it more than the girls will!

“God keeps track of the decent folk; what they do won’t soon be forgotten. In hard times, they’ll hold their heads high; when the shelves are bare, they’ll be full.”

Row On Row

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row...
John McCrae

No poppies here. Just rows and rows of white markers. This is the Veteran's Cemetery in Staunton, Va.

“Sorrow makes us all children again — destroys all differences of intellect. The wisest know nothing.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Littlest Graduate

What do we have here? This is our middle granddaughter Dara. Yesterday we went to  her graduation from pre-school. When I was a child, there was no pre-school, let alone graduation! But I think this little ceremony gives the child a real sense of accomplishment. Now on to kindergarten! Yes, they did have kindergarten when I was little!

There is always one child in a group who can't bear to look at the audience.

Getting her diploma

I sat with her little sister on my lap during the ceremony.

Us with the happy graduate. And so ended our morning. Full of yellow caps and good memories.

“You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.

Dangerous Work

This is how they used to repair wires.

This is how they changed streetlights

And this is how prisoners were transported.

And just for fun, Lillian Russell was a huge star in the 1800's. Looks like there's hope for me yet!

A friend sent me a bunch of old pictures this week. So I picked these to show you. Maybe one day I will post some more.

“And why do you think I keep risking my neck in this dangerous work? I look death in the face practically every day I live. Do you think I’d do this if I wasn’t convinced of your resurrection and mine as guaranteed by the resurrected Messiah Jesus?

A Mother's Day Heron

Since it is still May, I can now show you my Mother's Day photos! The day started off great when we spotted this Blue Heron while driving around. Then the family came over with flowers and a gift card. The two little ones wanted to go on the porch and "clean" the storm door with animal squirt guns. This is one of their favorite activities when here. And finally, here is me and my guy at the end of the day.

“Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never. Look, I’ve written your names on the backs of my hands."

The Dreads

The sun was shining brightly when I spotted them from a distance. I could not wait to get there and start shooting! These are called Dreadlock Amaranth. Aren't they amazing? I think they do look a bit like dreadlocks.

I bet you thought I was never coming back. We have both had quite a year with our illnesses. Sometimes I wondered myself if I would ever come back. But the thing is, I missed you all so much! So, here I am again! I will not be posting or commenting every single day like before. But I am so glad to be back and visit each of you to see what has been going on!

Unlit & Lit

Remember my last post of the unusual angel and homemade tree in a yard close by? Well, they both light up!!! We passed them tonight. So her...
