Call me funny, but I am interested in people's laundry that is hanging out to dry. Sometimes it is colorful and pretty, sometimes you can tell a bit about them from their clothes. This one, just a few blocks away, spells SUMMER to me!
This one is being guarded by geese.
These people love color.
Also very colorful, and must smell like these lilies growing beside it.
And look what I found online. Clothesline art!! All of these animals are made from hanging clothes!
Here is a poem I have liked for many years. It is very long, so I removed some of the verses.
The Clothes Line
by Marilyn K.
Walker
A clothes
line was a news forecast,
to neighbours passing by.
There were no secrets you could keep,
when clothes were hung to dry.
The line announced a baby's birth,
to folks who lived inside,
As brand new infant clothes,
were hung so carefully with pride.
The ages of the children,
could so readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed,
you'd know how much they'd grown.
It also told when illness struck,
as extra sheets were hung;
Then night-clothes,
and a bathrobe too,
haphazardly were strung.
It said "Gone on vacation now",
when lines hung limp and bare.
It told "We're back!" when full lines sagged,
with not an inch to spare.
But clotheslines now are of the past,
for dryers make work less,
Now what goes on inside a home,
is anybody’s guess.

Hi Ginny, love ❤️ the poem, and I enjoyed seeing the colourful laundry π on the clothesline. Towels, clothes...fun
How interesting, Ginny. I can't remember the last time I hung out laundry - I suppose because of the weather in the winter I don't even think to do it in the summer??? Love the poem.
Wonderful photos and I love the poem and the line art. People’s creativity never ceases to amaze me. How great to see clothes hanging on the line. The only times I might come across them is when having a ride in the country. Our HOA’s generally say no-no-no :(
This is such a unique and charming post. It's funny how you can find art and stories in something as simple as laundry hanging on a line. The poem you shared really captures that idea perfectly how a clothesline used to be a kind of community bulletin board, telling the story of a family. It's so true that dryers have made that a thing of the past. The clothesline art you found is absolutely amazing. I can't imagine having the creativity and patience to make those.
I've just published a new post on my blog. I would be honored if you would take a look at www.melodyjacob.com.
I thought of that exact poem as I was reading your post. Not many people around here still hang clothes out to dry. That clothesline art is so cool. I like them all
Clothesline arts seem like a genre on its own!
Love the poem and it's true that you don't see clotheslines as much now. The clothesline art is so cool!
I don't see any clothes hanging outside around here. People aren't home long enough to hang them out. I would love to live in a neighborhood where clotheslines were full. Thank you for sharing this long lost art, Ginny. Love, Andrea xoxo
that is a lot of different colors in the towels, like a rainbow and I have never seen clothes hanging on a line here. and you found all these.
How did you know I love clothes line art???
Haha! What an observation! Liked the poem. thank you for sharing! Have a fantastic week!
I love the poem and the clothesline art! ❤️π❤️π❤️π
I have seen the clothesline poem before, and really liked it. The clothesline art is pretty cool. Looks like you have a lot of neighbors hanging their clothes to dry. It really comes in handy when the dryer breaks down. Sometimes clothes are hung inside the house too. I usually hang all my shirts up, so they don't shrink in the dryer. Have a good rest of the week, Ginny.

Now that's my kind of art !! Love it and all the meanings behind those clothes flapping in the breeze. I haven't seen laundry on the line in years. Partially I can't see behind the homes into the backyards . Think I may put up a few photos of wash hanging on the line in other countries. Thanks for the prompt.

How do you find such amazing things like clotheslines in this day and age, Ginny? I used to have a clothesline here, but several years ago, a huge limb fell on it and ripped it away. Just the dryer now. Blessings and thanks for that cute poem, too.
such a nice poem Ginny. I love seeing clothes, sheets, towels hanging out on a clothesline. Goodness...this brings back so many memories of when I would be hanging by my moms side as she hung out the laundry....
I've read that poem before, its a good one.
I enjoy seeing clothes hanging on the line too. I like to hang my clothes by color and item.
Love the clothes line art. How creative.
I love that poem - and true too. You can tell a lot ab out a person by their laundry! lol Love the animal art. That dino was a lot of work.
You are not alone, Ginny! I am always snapping photo's of people's clotheslines filled with clothes. Especially when we would travel to Amish country. Ahh... the stories behind all the clothes that hung on those lines! I love this poem! And I really love this post!!!!
The Dino is my fave! I love that you see art in hanging clothes. It really is art. So fun. Cheers, Ivy.
