I saw this photo online and was astonished. I thought it was not a real plant.
So I started researching it, and it IS a real plant. It is called Prairie Smoke
Prairie Smoke, also known as Geum triflorum, is a unique plant species that can be found in our prairies and grasslands.
Each stem bears three nodding,
bell-shaped reddish-pink flowers which later transform into feathery, upright
seed plumes that create a “smoky” effect.
Once the
flowers have faded, the plant produces unique seed heads that are captivating. The seed
heads resemble feathery plumes and are often used in dried flower arrangements.
“A flower
that blooms into a whisper. Where petals turn to pink mist.”

My first impression was cotton candy, or an ice cream cone...
I have never seen these before. They're fascinating and beautiful. I can see how they would look like smoke
So fluffy and pretty
This is the coolest plant! The name is perfect. I'd love to see one in real life.
looks like a fruit.. Isn't it so pretty and fascinating? They look so delicate. Like Mari, I would love to see these growing.

Those are so pretty!
Oh I love it. :-)
Such a unique bloom that I've never seen nor heard of before, Ginny. Prairie Smoke is the perfect name for this pink wonder!
That's beautiful!! Wonder where it grows? Probably not in Texas!
Wow, I second every thing that others have said.
What an amazing plant. I love the frothy look. Can you imagine seeing a field of these pink smokey flowers?

I've seen them. Wow beautiful. Reminds me of cotton candy.
That is uncommonly gorgeous, Ginny! I have planted some flowers this year (or I had them planted; I was afraid that if I touched them, they would die) and am watering them faithfully and so far, so good (but it's only been a few weeks, haha) ... I checked to see if I could grow Prairie Smoke in central South Carolina and it's not looking good; they hate humidity. But they love full sun and we sure have a lot of that! Maybe I can get some seeds and give it a try! xoxo 🏴☠️
I have never seen these before. They're fascinating. I love how they swirl!
That’s amazing! ❤️
That is so pretty and I've never seen it before - of course I don't live near any prairies. Wow what a loving artist, our Heavenly Father is to provide us with such unique beauty. Wow.
What a strangely beautiful flower and one that I have never heard of or seen, thanks for the information, Ginny.
Interesting looking plant. I have not heard of it before.
Thank you very much for sharing this exquisite flower Ginny, I have never seen or heard of it before.
That's incredible! Looks like a fluffy rose filled with whispy petals. Isn't that something when it's fully bloomed. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing, Ginny.
