Our youngest granddaughter Jazz has been fascinated with Capybara. These are the largest rodents in the world. We bought her a bunch of capybara things for Christmas, including this stuffed one and this cool soft lamp.
Capybaras are one of
the most social mammals in the Americas. Their entire survival strategy is
based on family, group living, and constant companionship.
They don’t just
tolerate each other — they thrive on closeness.
You had to pay extra to pet them and more extra if you wanted to feed them.
Capybara communicate with
barks, whistles, purrs, and clicks, making them surprisingly chatty.
They’re famously calm,
often seen lounging with birds, monkeys, or even crocodiles nearby
Capybaras: the
gentle, loaf‑shaped sages of the animal world.

What fun, Ginny. Lovely photos. I love capybaras.
Awesome!! how neat that she was able to touch and feed one. I've not ever seen one and I am surprised at how big they are. I'm guessing she will be even more fascinated about them now.
This is so interesting. I never knew much about them. I'm glad she got to see and touch one!
I loved seeing these photos with Jazz and the capybaras, Ginny! I can't get over the fact that there is a special zoo where people can actually interact with them. I know she must have been thrilled!
How wonderful! Jazz now has these lovely memories. I saw them once in a zoo. Maybe Jazz will see them in their natural habitat one day.
Love the artsy effect in your header.
They have sweet eyes. I just wish they weren't rodents. I'd hate to see one of them in my yard.
Oh my gosh, Ginny, I have a dreadful fear of rodents. This one is so large! But it's calm, not like the mouse or rat. I'm glad Jazz has taken a liking to it. Isn't that something that she went to the zoo, and got to see and pet one? I've never heard of the Capybara, interesting. I have to say that the stuffie is quite cute. So nice of you to get those for her. And it's delightful for Jazz to learn about this animal.
I knew these guys were big but I didn't realize how big. What an adventure to be able to touch and feed them.
That lamp is adorable. A precious gift for sure.

**Ginny, I don't know the name of the ground cover on the purple flower bed or the pink blossom tree near the post office, but that is our state bird, the California Quail. He is the funniest bird to watch because they are ground birds, and I rarely see them fly. They walk through the neighborhood, and that's how they search for food. The male has a big spike of feathers on top of its head. They really are delightful to watch, and they start to come around in spring.
I love it. :-)
When someone can meet their favorite animal, I just love it.
My friend Alice loves elephants, she got to get close to an elephant last summer.
These fellas sure are cute.
xo
My grandson Levi loves capybara's too! He has a few stuffed ones and he would love the one with the backpack!
Didn't know they were that big or all those facts about them. Very interesting.
Wow, they really are huge. I had no idea they were this big. And they don't really look like rodents either.
They look sweet -- I didn't expect them to be so big.
I am sooooo jealous, I want to pet and feed one. the polaris bike is crazy and pretty. Bob says they are dangerous, someone died last week on our sunshine skyway bridge, driving one of these, he jerked the wheel to miss a car and hit the concrete side and destroyed it and him. it really is cool looking
I have to be honest with you - I have never heard of one!
