Japanese Dogwood

The Japanese dogwoods are in bloom now. Have you ever seen one? This one is in front of the post office.

The blooms are a bit different looking from regular Dogwoods

But did you know there are pink ones? I didn't, until I saw this one.

“Stand beneath a dogwood and you’ll hear the hush of old springtime spells.”

I don't think I've ever seen one around here. If I have I didn't know what it was. These are really pretty. I like both the white and the pink

Oh, that is absolutely breathtaking! I have seen the classic white ones before, but I honestly had no idea there were pink Japanese dogwoods out there. What a spectacular find, and right in front of the post office of all places! It must make running errands feel like a total treat just getting to walk past it.

You are so right, the blooms really do have such a unique, distinct shape compared to the regular dogwoods we usually see. There's something so elegant and architectural about them. And that quote you shared at the end is just perfect; it really does look like something straight out of a springtime fairytale.

Now you've got me wanting to take a much closer look at the trees around my town to see if we have any of these hidden gems hiding in plain sight! Have you noticed if this pink one stays vibrant for a long time, or do the petals fade quickly? Thank you for sharing these gorgeous photos.

How absolutely beautiful!!!! I love dogwoods and grew up surrounded by them in PA. The ones here grown mostly as large shrubs and nothing like the ones I grew up with. I love the Legend of the Dogwood Tree and it's religious symbolism. Have a wonderful weekend. xo Diana

Our neighbors have the "normal" dogwood in their backyard. It finished blooming last month. Sure didn't last very long but it was so beautiful. I really like the Japanese one with its pointed edge.

They are pretty trees. I've seen them in Golden Gate Park and the Japanese tea garden in San Francisco. I love seeing them in bloom.

Dogwoods are vey popular in Tennessee as I recall from my spring visits there many years ago. They are a beautiful tree.

Isn't that a beauty of a tree? I like the pink ones, but somehow those white blossoms sure show up against the green leaves. That tree on the green grass is huge, and soooo pretty. There's a lot of shade under that tree too, which is nice in summertime.

Just beautiful!!! Back years ago I used to drive to Tyler to see the roses and Ennis, Texas to see the bluebonnets. I also visited the Azalea trail....
and the dogwoods in East Texas. Maybe after my cateract surgery I will be able to drive like I used to do! Have you had your surgery yet?

I'm not sure if I've ever seen one. But now I want a pink and white tree for my yard. How pretty.

Beautiful! I have seen them but can’t remember where.

The Dragons

Going inside the large new orthopedic building, we saw this on a check-in desk. Little Dragons! And each one had a note introducing himself...
