Rumors circulate
around the schoolyard: kids who draw or wear white socks and bring
violins to school on Wednesdays might have cooties. I confess to having
yielded to these pressures.

Cooties was a very popular game back in the fifties, when I was a kid. I wanted it really BAD. It seemed like all the other kids had it, but not me. The reason being given was we were "not made of money". I never did get that Cootie game, but am so glad that is is kind of a classic and is still around!! I have finally bought the Cootie game at the age of 63!! And now I can show Ella and Anne the fun of it while I enjoy it right along with them. It makes me feel like I am 9 again, and that's not a bad thing. Have you ever had Cooties? And is there a game that YOU really wanted and did not get?
“Since God has so generously let us in on what
he is doing, we’re not about to throw up our hands and walk off the job just
because we run into occasional hard times. We refuse to wear masks and games…we
don’t twist God’s Word to suit ourselves.”

I recognized "cooties" at once! Yes, we had that game and LOVED it!! It was a game version of Mr. Potato Head. Enjoy!
Best,

Hey Ginny, I don't know this cooties but they sure look very cute!!
Hi Ginny, this question is easy to answer. One of my brothers had an Erector Set . . . it was off limits for girls (this was the 50's). I remember once he build a working Ferris wheel with it . . . I was so fascinated with that toy.
I've never played Cooties, but maybe I'll buy one for the next time I visit my granddaughters. It looks like fun:)
Have a Happy Valentine's Day.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
Cootie!!! I loved playing Cootie as a kid... and am so glad it's still around. How neat is that??!!
What precious pictures!!

XOXOXO
What fun!!!! I do remember the cootie game but I, like you didn't get it when I was young. I got to play with it with my own kids later on! Enjoy!!!
Blessings, Joanne
I loved playing Cooties as a kid. The pieces haven't changed all that much either I see. I remember wanting a Monopoly game as a little kid but my parents said no. Years later when I did play the game I realized I would not have enjoyed it at that young of an age any way.
I remember this game but I didn't have it either. I had to settle for playing it at friends houses. I can't think of a game I wanted but didn't get but I did dream of having a money tree. The line at our house was always "money doesn't grow on trees"
I did no know what Cooties were...
Now I do...
She is lovely, and she's so happy!
God bless you both!

OH my gosh, I remember this game back when our kids were little, and home. But boy have the cooties themselves changed in design. I LIKE these.
I remember playing with Cooties but I don't think we owned them. I think we had Mr. Potato Head though.
How fun!!
We had that game. I also liked "Hi Ho Cherry O." I remember that being a lot of fun.
Where I grew up Cooties were germs - imaginary germs - not a game to play. It meant you were socially undesirable and not worthy to be near. You were an outcast - especially if you were a recent immigrant - and if the 'in' crowd taunted a kid, no one wanted to be their friend. Not a good memory for many children unfortunately!
Glad you're having fun though with your grands and this game!

Just in case someone wants to read more about it!
i have never heard of this game before. the only cooties i remember from the 50's was when they made fun of people and said don't play with them they have cooties. it is really colorful and bright colors and she looks happy to have it.. glad you got it since you wanted one. i never played games, all i wanted was books, books and more books. we did play scrabble and monopoly and candy land.
LOL I remember Cooties Game....
You had a LONG wait, but I'm so happy you finally got your Cooties game!
No, I didn't have the Cooties...we had the game of Sorry and Monopoly. And lucky to have them...I have wondered if one of my sisters got them for us, but can't say for sure. To be truthful, we were so poor, we just didn't ask for things. We knew it was no use.
One of my sisters that had left home got us this '64 games in one' thing. Not sure it was 64, but for some reason that sticks in my mind. It didn't have a hard board, but had several different 'boards' made out of paper about as stiff as a file folder or a little stiffer. They had games on back and front...and did give us something different to do.
I've never heard of cooties. I never had this game nor did my son. Looks colorful and fun. Ella is so cute in these photos. :)
Hi Ginny, Same for me! I never had the "Cooties" game or the "Operation" game. I did have "Monopoly", "Chess", and I had an ancient set of ivory dominoes that had been made by a sea-faring ancestor. So I was lucky. Have a great day!
Where have I been? I've never heard of this game before! We had Monopoly and Scrabble and Checkers, etc. The only cooties I had heard of were those that everyone teased each other about like they were little bugs in your hair. LOL!
My great grandson has one of these. It is the newer version tho. We still play it off and on.
Don't think I have seen those before, they looks cool and colorful :) Thank you for stopping by at my blog.
I remember those Cooties - I don't have them any more but I did once upon a time!!! Good memories.
These cute colourfull toys looks like they are timeless. Always fun and fascinating.
Greetings,
Filip
I must admit,I have never even heard of Cooties.Looks like a fun game.It wasn't a game I wanted, but a science set.I saw them in the catalog, but my Dad said they were not for girls. I got a baking set instead, fun, but not what I really wanted.
I was an only child raised in a difficult house. So I usually got whatever I asked for when things calmed down.
Yes I did have a Cooties game and Mr. Potato Head and just about anything you can imagine!
Ella is just beautiful and I am so glad you found this game and bought it!
Blessings of peace my friend! ♥
I remember cooties I think my kids had them.....back when I was a youngster in school we made cootie catchers out of folded paper. I think there has always been cooties of some kind in school :)
I did have the Cootie game but I had forgotten all about it! How fun that you didn't and you can enjoy this with your sweet grandchildren!
I remember that game. What a cute set of photos.
I did have that game, but your modern game's "cooties" look like they have a lot more personality than the originals. And playing with youngsters is great!
