And then the spider came out! It was on the other side of the door, but still...
Then a month or so ago, one of these tried to crawl up my lawn chair!! I thought it was just a granddaddy long legs, but Phil said no! And of course my two words upon seeing ANY spider are KILL IT! More and more are coming into the house now that fall is here.
That's why I am not at all fond of these flowers. They are called Spider Flowers, because they look spidery, and are blooming now. I show the current batches each year. They look spindly, and the way the really skinny leaves hang down remind me of spider legs. They give me the creeps! As you can see from my shadow, I am standing a respectable distance away!
Their real name is Cleome and their meaning is "come away with me". It would be so romantic if they weren't so creepy! I do not want ANY spider to come away with me, so you can believe me that I will never touch one of these!

I'm not a big fan of spiders either. Those flowers are pretty but I can see the spidery resemblance
I don't like spiders but the flowers I love... they are awesome, especially the header shot. mother had spider lilies but they did not look like these. i want one
I'm with you, Ginny. I hate the thought of walking into those big webs not knowing if there's a spider crawling on me! I go on the offensive with a can of bug spray! I'll walk around the house spraying every spider and web I see, and being very cautious with every step I take!
Spiders don't really bother me, mice on the other hand....the flowers are very nice!
Such beautiful flowers and the colors are stunning. I'm with you when it comes to the spiders. I have been bitten by a brown recluse, twice and now I'm terrified of spiders. They're so creepy and silent!!
Be careful....
I would be running right with you, I don't like spiders but I love the flowers,, Ginny I'm not selling my work any more, I won't be painting any more so I just won't have any paintings for sale, I thank you for such kind words about my work though, you are so kind to ask,
Spiders and heights are my two big phobias...EEK!!
The spider flowers are beautiful, perhaps if you give them another name, you might want to touch them after that.. :)
Amazing photos and a very interesting write up. LUCEAT LUX VESTRA= LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE- is our college motto. I studied in Loyola College, Chennai. I live in Kerala, India.
Best wishes,

Oh Ginny,
I'm right there with you when it comes to spiders, and why they can't hurt us but it is the creepy, crawly feeling and I guess that is why I am also not fond of slugs either.
However spiders do create and a slug only leaves a mess behind. yuck
I do however like spider plants. Your pictures are great of the Cleome. I love it when they go to seed and the pods split.
Little Miss Muffet! I can't say that spiders bother me all that much but I don't hang around them either. Phil must stay busy saving you from all those fall spiders.
Best,
Bonnie
Those two words often come out of my mouth when I see spider, too! That long-leg spider looks too scary.
The spider flowers look pretty. Maybe they can be named differently so they won't remind you of spider. Maybe, like "whiskers." :-)
Spiders are certainly not the loveliest of creatures to be sure and I hate it when I inadvertently walk into a web. The flowers, however, are just lovely and I wouldn't hesitate to bring them into my home. I hope you have a great day, Ginny. Blessings...Mary
Spiders scare me! I was bit by a Brown Recluse, not fun. Your flowers are breath-taking! Needed these beauties today. :)
HI Ginny Love the header and the 5th photos best.
I'm not into spiders either but did enjoy the flowers you have shared.
I am also not a fan of spiders.
Greetings,
Filip
But the flowers are so pretty!
Can't stand spiders either!!
hughugs
I am not fond of spiders on me...in fact, one on me unexpectedly can freak me out. However, Sarah on the other hand will catch them and take them outside to set them free....and Lorelei likes the jumping spiders.
I can't say that I love spiders, but, the way you feel about spiders is how I feel about grasshoppers. I despise them and will stay away from them. So,you see,I understand how you feel about spiders.
I do not like spiders either. I am complaining about them on my blog tomorrow ;-)
I don't like spiders either... but at the same time I respect them as a creature created by God... and "God don't make junk", as the ole saying goes.
How can one of God's creatures help how they look? Kind of like a deformed person... perhaps may be revolting to look at but is beloved by God all the same. That's how I look at spiders too.
They have their place... otherwise God would not have made them.
Love~ Andrea
XOXOXO
The only good thing about a spider to me is their creative side of making beautiful webs.
Not too crazy about spiders either but I do think those flowers are really pretty. Guess I never related them to actual spiders.
Get out the bug spray and douse those buggers!!
Your photos are lovely, Ginny. I am not a fan of spiders myself, but I do enjoy seeing photos of them. Thank you so much for sharing, and your header is awesome!
I hate spiders too - we have had some people at church that have been bitten by the brown recluse! Are those flowers yours - GORGEOUS!
am not fond of spider but also dare not kill it.
Don't know I like or not - these spiders.... But always fascinated about the web.... Loved your pics..
Hi Ginny, I am with you regarding Spiders! Have an excellent day today and another happy one tomorrow!
I Feel your pain...spiders are creepy...and I have had a fear of them my whole life. This year I am trying again to get over that fear some...like kill them and not be so terrified
I don't mind spiders as long as they are outside, but if they come into the house they will die.
That flower is so pretty. I really like your creepy photo of the shadow that looks like spiders' legs and the bloom above.
