Mystery Item

Do you know what this could be?
It's something you don't often see.
Maybe you've used this before?
It's in all of American lore.
So take a guess, what do you think?
I'll be back to tell you in a blink.

Dear Ginny, They are the speakers for a drive-in movie.
I used to go to them all the time with my parents when I was a little girl.
I hope all is well. xo Catherine

It looks like a kind of microphone to me. You always find something interesting and mysterious!

I've seen these many times....as a kid, we went to the drive-in movies and I was always intrigued with these speaker boxes. Brings back memories...

Speakers of some kind I guessed then I saw the drive-in comments. The only time I have ever seen a drive-in movie is in an old movie. Thank you for your sweet comments on my blog :) Have a great day!

I guess we can all remember these, if you were born in the 40's and 50's.

My first thought is that they are speakers for a drive-in movie theater. They were still around in the late 1960s. In my mid teens, I went to one in northern Minnesota with some other teens. We and our parents were on a weekend vacation at a lake lodge. We were nearly eaten alive by the mosquitoes, even in the car!

it's been a long time since I've been to the drive in but I do remember hanging those speakers off the car window.

Speakers from drive-in movies - though I've never been to one. We just shake our heads and roll our eyes at those old-fashioned things, but everything has to start somewhere, lol!

I tend to agree with some of the comments as to drive in speakers, but really not sure. You are the best at keeping us in suspense.
