The Baby And The Lawn Mower

Last summer we were in our car, parked beside a horse farm. And what should I see but this! A woman was driving down the road in a lawn mower, and she had a baby drinking his bottle!

She had driven him down the street from a nearby house to show him the horses. I must admit that I was shocked to see such a thing.  A woman driving a lawnmower on the street, let alone with a baby! But maybe I was too judgmental. What do YOU think?

Uh OH! Looks like I've been spotted!

“Are you the one who gave the horse his prowess and adorned him with a shimmering mane?

This horrifies me! An egregious example of a mother putting her child in danger. No carseat. No helmet. What was she thinking?

Best,
Bonnie

People ride bicycles all over town with babies in little bike seats, and they also pull babies in bike trailers. This seems similar, since the bikes go fast too and are on roads.

This could prove to be very dangerous!

At my first look at the picture, I was thinking "isn't this dangerous?" The mom probably never thought of the possible danger.

Hope she gets a bit of sense for the child's sake.

I've got mixed feelings with it. We did all kinds of things back in the day that would put people in shock today, and we did them safely and without incident. Yes this is potentially dangerous but then isn't just about everything we do? Getting behind the wheel of a car and driving down the road is potentially dangerous.

This most definitely is not safe and could be very dangerous. She may naively not realize the danger here...

This doesn't look very safe, but I also rode in the back of pickup trucks when I was a kid, so....:-/

i would not do this, if the child fell off she would run over it.. a walk and a stroller would be best for me. love the photos though, especially the header. at least on a bike the child is strapped in with a helmet.. we have had not one but 3 children run over by lawn mowers in the past year. one had her foot cut off, one died and the other had injury's. maybe tying the baby to her with a belt or rope.

lawnmowers and babies are not a good mix. there is a story here about a daycare. the husband was out mowing and one of the toddlers from the daycare ran outside. he accidentally backed the mower over him, killing him. he didn't know that the little boy was out. this happened before we moved here but people are still talking about how horrific it was. i hate when i see people mowing with a child on their lap. :(

Well, I wouldn't do it. But I'm not sure we know the whole story here. Why do we not see her standing in any of these photos? Is she disabled? It doesn't look safe, I agree, but maybe there's something there that we don't know.

Looks awfully dangerous to me! Maybe on your own private property with the blade not running, but not on a public road.

Well, I am one of those that loved riding in the back of the truck...wouldn't do it now, but it has not been that many years since I did.

I thought maybe this was the grandma myself...and I thought I love this. And if you look at that last shot, when she is moving, the steering comes down and blocks the baby in...look at that last shot...the child has his hand on one and it is no strain for it to reach it. I have a feeling it is safer than we think. I hope I am right...

That looks very dangerous. She has her hands off the handle and eyes off the street. The baby can easily fall off the lawnmower. I'm scared for the baby.

Well, personally I would not do this. I am a worrier though.

You see just about any thing this day and time, people do not use good judgment a lot of the time.

It looks rather dangerous, but as long as she is holding onto baby tightly,I guess its ok.

I would not do this Ginny. Way too dangerous on so many levels.

It all depends on how old the baby is, how fast she was driving, and how busy the street was.

Oh....you know me Ginny!! I'm a pure Country girl and even though I respect the other comments for this particular ride, being dangerous.....I will say that I have probably done it before...without the mower blades in motion of course!! I have been on some GREAT adventures with all of my grandchildren and most of these wild adventures are the ones that they have super special memories of.
I guess for me...my biggest pet peeve would lean more toward children be left unattended in shopping carts.
have a great evening...we are having Beautiful weather.

I think it looks like it was in the country and things like that are more acceptable - maybe I am too flexible.

Maybe not the best plan, but they seem safe enough on that country road. Hope she would not do it in the city.

Dear Ginny, I would have thought this to be out of sorts as well.
I think she should have waited to visit the horses until there was a better plan of getting there.
