On Thin Ice

The Canada goose pond was frozen in large spots last week. Most of the geese were huddled on the ice looking cold.

They flexed their wings to keep warm.

Some were even standing on one leg, to keep the other one warm.

Only the bravest would dunk under to look for food.

“From the breath of God ice is made,

And the expanse of the waters is frozen.”
Job 37

God's creation never fails to amaze us. Humans need shoes to stand on ice but these geese don't need anything extra.

I know it's second nature to them but I just can't imagine having to look for food that way. I wouldn't even want to be standing out there on the ice barefoot let alone stick my head in that water

Poor babies, they left Canada for some warm air - and then the tables turn on them! I kind of felt the same way when Scott and I went to Florida for a week at the end of December and it was bitter cold!

These are hardy birds for sure! Great photos of them enjoying a bright winter's day and I love the sparkles on the water!

Our water fowl in our area is busy trying to find open water in the rivers and along some spots on the lake. Your photos are wonderful.

I always feel sorry for the birds in colder weather.Geese are pretty hardy, but it must still be hard for them.

We have many Canadian geese around here and I have seen large flocks flying overhead lately. I hope they aren't confused and think spring is on the way this soon! We had a couple of days of spring-like temps and I even saw a robin in the yard yesterday, but I expect he was here all along but still a welcome sight!
