We all know that long ago, Coca-cola actually had cocaine as an ingredient. But there are other, even stranger food facts. I have been watching a T.V. show called Hazardous History narrated by Henry Winkler.
Did you know that Heroin used to be sold over the counter? Anyone could buy it! It was thought to not be addictive and was also given for free to people addicted to Morphine to ease them off of it.
It was thought to soothe a cough, and people flocked to drugstores to buy it. All they had to say was "Please give me a large bottle of HEROIN!
Also, radiated water used to be all the rage. It was thought to make you healthier. This gives new meaning to the term of having a glowing face! That fad ended very badly.
And for awhile, 7-Up had Lithium in it! It was thought to boost your mood.
Well, live and learn.

but took away the sky.”

Hi Ginny, I knew some of these things but not all. As I recall hearing, Coca Cola was developed and sold by a pharmacist. Strange things from back then for sure. Thanks 😊 🫂 🙏 so much for this journey down memory lane.
Years ago the Wall Street Journal had an article entitled, "Things Were Going Fine Until Their Jaws Dropped Off." It was about irradiated water. They believed it was healthy to drink it.
How confidently people once embraced these so-called remedies, a stark reminder of how science and understanding evolve over time
It's amazing the things that used to be used so commonly.
I knew about Coca Cola but not the others. So interesting and so sad.
That was interesting. Back when I had my daycare and on the USDA food program I was alerted to arsenic in Cheerios. I stopped using them for the breakfast’s and finger foods for the children and went with brands of “O’s” that didn’t have it.
Not to mention to other pesticides and chemicals we have in our foods. We’ve been poisoned for decades by the foods we eat.
That's so scary, Ginny! Makes me wonder what modern drugs we're using that might turn out to be ones we never should have been prescribed. Blessings!
Fascinating, I knew some of this but I think we are ingesting things that aren't any good for us daily. Sometimes the "Good Old Days" weren't.
