The Easter lily is really a native of Japan, and these lilies are often called "White robed apostles of hope". An old story says that these lilies started in the Garden Of Eden from the teardrops of
Eve that she spread while leaving the garden. They symbolize Easter for their purity and innocence, the hanging head representing humility, and the bulb signaling a new birth. So when Easter comes, consider the lilies.

"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?"

It's Raining Chicks!!!

Look what I came across the other day, it was raining chicks! They were falling from the sky to get to their own special playground, where they had a see-saw and many other fun things to do. I have heard of it raining tomatoes, fish, and frogs, but never chicks! In 1884, so many frogs rained on England that people caught them in their hats. Then in 1984, a bunch of flounder rained on London. Scary or humorous? You be the judge. Wonder if anyone fixed the flounder for dinner? Here is something that rained and people did fix it for dinner. Manna rained down from heaven, and we know why, it was because God sent it. Now wouldn't you love to taste that!!

"Then the Lord said to Moses,"I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. " Exodus 16:4

Well, the peeps tickle me so much that I have decided do a second post on them. These are the winners from last year, which I posted at that time. I kind of like them better than the new ones. I don't know about Frankenstein or FrankenPeep returning from the dead, but I do know that Jesus did. And many, many people saw him.

Every year at Easter, The Washington Post has a Peeps contest. The entrants must make a shoebox sized scene from a book, movie, T.V. show, or famous moment in history. And the characters must be made from the sweet marshmallow candy, Peeps! Each year I take pictures (from the newspaper) of my favorites, so here are the 2011 Peeps scenes! I really didn't care much for the ones the adults made, but these made by kids are great! Here is one prize that is the absolute best to win!

Crosses

It's the time of year for hot cross buns! They are traditionally eaten around Good Friday and Easter, with the cross being a symbol of the crucifiction. There are some interesting superstitions about them. Sharing a bun with another person ensures your friendship for the coming year. If you take one on a boat, they will protect you from shipwreck. If you hang them in the kitchen they will protect you from fires and cause all your breads to turn out perfect. You hang a new one each year. If you bake and serve them on Good Friday, they will not spoil or get mouldy during the following year (that's a hard one to swallow). These are fun to read, but I believe that superstitions place our faith in things and happenstance rather than God. But I think that most people have some kind of little superstition whether they realize it or not. Would you walk under a ladder? What are your superstitions?

First Full Moon Of Spring

There was a full moon tonight, it's called the full Pink moon. This is because of the wild ground phlox, one of the earliest wildflowers of spring. It is also called the Egg Moon. It is the first full moon of spring! Do you know how they figure out when Easter is each year? From what I can understand, if the first full moon of spring is around a Sunday, then Easter is the next Sunday. And now I must confess that I cheated JUST a little!! This moon is from last night, about 24 hours earlier. It was just huge! But it sure looks full to me, and I could not get a picture of it tonight. Plus, it's always so nice to turn time backwards when you have the chance.

"The sun will no more be your light by day,

nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,

for the Lord will be your everlasting light,

and your moon will wane no more;

the Lord will be your everlasting light,

Someone To Watch Over Me

Yesterday was what meteoroligists call a "busy day". There were over 100 tornados. We had a tornado warning here, and it lit about ten minutes away. It had a path four miles long and 300 yards wide, with 95 MPH winds. It left a narrow trail of damage, while things on either side of it were completly untouched. Huge trees were sliced through neatly and snapped like twigs. It traveled so fast in this sleepy little barn-filled town that it was over before most people could even react. And yet not a single person was harmed. Jesus still stood peacefully watching over his cross shaped garden. And perhaps he was watching over more than the garden. I drove through today and this is what I saw. The roads were closed where the worst damage was.

"Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men." Psalm 107:28,31
