A Fly In The Ointment

This is the doughnut case in our supermarket, don't they have some cute doughnuts? It is self serve, you grab a box and put in as many as you want. As you can see, they are behind glass doors which you have to open. Well, the other day, I went to get a few, but saw that a fly had gotten inside the case, and was landing on all the donuts! I went home without any, because we all know how dirty flies are. Then today, I visited the case again to grab just one doughnut. Yikes, a fly again!! But I must confess that I had been on the go all day, and was so hungry that I took one and ate it anyway! I told myself that people eat food at picnics that flies have been all over. Now, what would YOU have done? I'm thinking this might turn out 50/50.

His Stripes

We went to a safari zoo with our family this week, and it was so much fun!! You drive through, and all the wild animals come up to your car so you can feed them! We went through four buckets of food. The zebras may have been my favorite. The second picture is the zebra with Phil, and the third is me feeding the zebra!! A zebras stripes are like fingerprints, no two zebras have the same stripe pattern. When a zebra has to run away from predators, their stripes make them all blend together, and the hunter is not able to single one out and gets confused. They are considered to be black with white stripes, not white with black stripes. They sleep standing up and a baby can run just one hour after being born. I loved the fact that their stripes continue right up their mane, down their legs and on their tail!

Through The Wires Part ll

Today's wires don't have a shining sun or pretty sky behind them. These wires have tree limbs and shoes on them, and are backed by mostly dreary skies. The limbs have been on the wires for over a year, yet no one sees fit to move them. And I guess teenagers throw shoes and things over the wires, It must take a bit of talent to do this, but can anyone clue me in as to why? Once slung over the wires, they likely stay there forever. Whenever we drive by, I wonder who, how and why. Do you see this where you live, or is it just a local thing here? When we go around throwing things, we need to be careful! You just never know what might come of it.


Then the Lord said to him "What is that in your hand?"
"A staff," he replied.
The Lord said, "Throw it on the ground."
Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. Then the Lord said to him, "Reach out your hand and take it by the tail." So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.

School Days

I went to Staples a while back to get a new ink eraser. You know the kind that's like a pencil and had a brush on the end, like my old one in the first picture. I also wanted one of those gum erasers. Most of the clerks didn't know what I was talking about. They don't make such things anymore. They only have one shape and kind of latex free erasers, also shown in the first picture. The old erasers would erase anything, and even make a hole in the paper if you rubbed too hard, they were radical! These new ones won't erase ANYTHING!!! Why don't they sell the old good ones anymore, can they be used as some kind of weapon??


I used to love shopping for school supplies, did you? I even loved the smells of the crayons, glue, and fresh paper, I would inhale it all as I shopped. But it's not like the old days. Anyway, I got these things for my granddaughter, who started kindergarten today. I don't know how they work, but they are fun and pretty. And the giant pencil must weigh over a pound, now that is fun! Do you have a favorite memory of school starting?

The Main Attraction

 
Well, I have been to the alpaca farm several more times, it just draws me. So this would probably be my fourth post about these animals. This time the babies are half grown and they have recently been sheared. In the third picture, you can see most of the thick fur is gone, replaced by the shearing tracks. Their fleece fiber is as soft as cashmere, lightweight, warm and durable. It is much sought after and comes at a high price. Alpacas are animals of antiquity and come from the Andes over 6,000 years ago. The Incas measured their wealth by how many alpacas they owned, and considered them to be magical. A pregnant female sells for about $15,000, but that isn't why I return here again and again. I just love their bug soft eyes and gentle curiosity. This time we brought Ella, and she just loved them, they worked their magic on her as well.


"But ask the animals, and they will teach you,

The Storm

We were caught in a scary storm yesterday. We were in the car, and pulled into a parking lot to wait it out. Lots of darkness, winds, and bolt lightening. In the first picture, that huge black streak from sky to ground is pouring rain heading our way. We sat and watched as finally the sun rays came out and shone all over town, and then, God's promise, the rainbow. From one end of town to the other, and at the same time, lightening bolts shooting through it! And the most marvelous sight of all, the rainbow going right through the middle of this church steeple!


"I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind."
