Oh Yes I DID!

Lots of you wanted to know what the pretty hanging rings were in yesterday's post. In fact, some wanted to know so much that you even suggested that Phil or I go and knock on the door to ask. As if I would do such a thing! Of course not, I would ask Phil to instead!!! In fact, I am always asking Phil to knock on the doors of strange houses, but that is for another upcoming post...Anyway, here is Phil at the door, and here is your answer. These are bird feeders! I have never seen anything like them! They are made of very heavy crackle glass that sparkles in the sun. The birds perch on the rim to eat. But when it is wet and windy, they can hop inside to eat. The food stays dry, and the rings have drainage holes. They each hold two cups of seed. Did you know there was a time when birds brought food to man instead of the other way around?

"Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: "Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there." So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook."
1 Kings 17:2,6

They are delightful! Maybe they even prevent the squirrels from taking the bird's food?!

They do look like the summer equivalent of Christmas ornaments! Just delightful! Very creative! Oh, and our pastor spoke on God's provision by sending the ravens to feed the prophet, among his other points!

You sound just like me - I would have made John go knock on the door! These are cute as can be and so very clever! Wishing you and Phil a very nice week, Ginny.

Oh the things we ask of our hubby and we sit back hunkered down.

I have never seen anything like these before, Wonder if they are squirrel proof?

They sure are pretty and a perfect photo op.

Hope your week is a good.

Awesome! You and Phil make such a great team. Ginny> CEO - she knows how to get things done and find out just what's what. (enter- Phil) Phil> investigative reporter. There's nowhere he won't go... nothing he won't do (well, almost nothing) to find out the truth!
And together they uncover life's mysteries. The darling duo of Ginny and Phil.
I love the bird feeders!!!

I am picturing you at the curb, behind the wheel with the motor running just in case!! That Phil is a gem! I thought they were bird feeders and think they are quite delightful. Now, could you (or Phil) find out where the gracious homeowner purchased them?

Best,
Bonnie

so NOW we have PROOF of husband abuse. poor Phil, knocking on doors to answer all yours and our questions. glad he did, these are even more amazing now that i know what they are. so pretty and feed the birds. i do have to say sister mine I have never knocked on a door but i have stopped and asked permission to go on the grass from the woman in her drive way, she had toadstools in the middle of her yard. she said yes and i am thinking was inside her head shaking her head in wonderment about a crazy lady sitting her camera in the grass taking photos of her toadstools.

Nw I will have to find out where I can get that kind of feeders. They are so pretty.AS for the Ravens bringing me food,I think I will pass, especially when I think of what Ravens eat, road kill. I do think that the ones that brought the food to Elijah, were guided towards better food.

Very cute. I'd never have guessed. Some people are just clever. And . . . I'd never have knocked on that door. So Kudos to Phil.

oh.. so nice post.)
Love your blog.))

I now spend a survey of bloggers with such questions.
1. Why did you create a blog?
2. For whom you taking him? Want to be popular?
3. How long will it keep going?

Now I'm just wondering - how do the birds know that there is food in there?

I love these! I have a big bird cage with an open door hanging from a tree filled with food. I can't have typical birdfeeders because of my cats but this also is a good idea for me :) I love the colors.

Your Phil is such a great guy!

Those rings are ingenious - and beautiful in the sunshine.

Yes, I have seen these. In fact, you can order your own here.

They are neat looking and also unusual too

Hi Ginny, Wonder if these are available for sale or if they were custom created by a glass artist. They are quite pretty but I am not sure if I would want such bold colors in my forest setting. I know I have a red-roofed bird feeder but it was what was around and was inexpensive. Have a great day and keep on with the occasional mystery photo or puzzler. Fun!

I didn't think they were bird feeders, I thought it was for water, but what a good idea for them to go inside and keep dry.

Your poor hubby, having to be the one knocking on doors for you LOL I guess you're getting even for him always getting lost in questionable neighborhoods before you had your GPS LOL

your Phil is some kind of guy to do that for you. Tobey would never, ever in a million years do such a thing! He would to embarrassed to let me do it!
I wonder if the squirrels get to the seed in those feeders? they are really pretty. In fact the whole front porch of the house is pretty.

Phil was very brave, I thought, you were safer going as a woman. But then, a bird lover, must be ok with strangers. beside Phil is a perfect gentleman , so no need to worry.

Chatty Crone said...

okay - great job and tell Phil thanks. However, go back and find out where they got them! I want one!

I think that would be my answer to squirrels - seriously.

I love your posts and sense of humor and how you teach us something!
