Strawberry Fields Forever

Tonight was the night of the Full Strawberry Moon! And here are my pictures of it. It was given this name because June is the relatively short period that strawberries grow. Here you see a few of the tiny wild strawberries that grow in our yard. Someone told us that this kind is poisonous, do you think so? And here is our Granddaughter Anne Marie and her friend at the local strawberry field. She goes there every year to pick them, then her mom makes lots of yummy goodies from them. Strawberries are the only fruit with the seeds on the outside, and each berry has about 200 seeds! In parts of Bavaria, country folk tie baskets of strawberries to the horns of their cattle as an offering to elves, who they believe adore the fruit. Who knew? All pictures were taken by me except the ones of Anne, which were taken by her mom, Melissa.

"I am the vine; you are the branches; if a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing...This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."   John 15

200 seeds per strawberry...never knew that. My husband worked for Chiquita for 17 years so I learned a lot about bananas but never strawberries. Preicous picture of your granddaughters!

I never heard of strawberry moon - nor of poisonous strawberries. Used to pick wild (small) strawberries as a child (when we lived near the woods), there weren't lots of them but they are really good. But of course I can't say whether those we have here are are exactly the same as those in your pictures.

From the smiles on those two little faces I would guess the strawberries are delicious.

All of my strawberries are still green, so are the raspberries. The cooler weather has delayed our enjoying the berries.

Actual wild strawberries are not poisonous, we ate them all the time as kids.

I didn't know it was called the Strawberry Moon. What a lovely name and the story behind it. I loved it! Can't imagine strawberries growing wild either! Adorable pictures of those two angels!

Hi Ginny. Gary can't eat strawberries, but I love them. My son once ate an entire carton of them and afterwards had a very bad allergic reaction. He's had to take allergy medication ever since.
Honestly, Ginny, your photos of the moon are the best!! I rarely see Anne Marie without a big beautiful smile on her face.
I always love the scripture that you include in your posts. Also - beautiful header!!!

We have always eaten those little wild strawberries - we have some in our yard. They don't have a ton of flavor like real strawberries though.

I ate tiny wild strawberries when I was young, and I'm still here, lol! Incredible pictures of the strawberry moon! We were fogged and rained in and couldn't see it. Such a lovely picture of your little one and her friend! Enjoy the strawberries!

I knew there was a full moon, but did not know it was the strawberry moon. Your granddaughter is precious! I heard you have to really wash strawberries real well.

If Nyssa were home I would send her to fields close to the house here to pick some. These old knees just won't do it anymore. I may have to go get some already picked from the farmer's market. I can't eat them raw... they really do a number on my tongue... but put sugar on them.. of course... and it is fine.

More wonderful photos to share with us today, Ginny. It is always a treat to visit here. Wild strawberries are not poisonous unless they grow in polluted soil. Chances are the birds and other yard critters are eating your berries with no ill effects. Your granddaughter is such a sweet child. I suspect she gets lots of hugs and never lacks for affection. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary

I tried to get that moon shot and could not, my camera will not take a moon shot, no matter what i do. i heard from Remington yesterday that is was strawbery moon but did not know why, now i do. also did not know the berry is the seeds on the outside, go figure. i do so love them. Ann marie is as always adorable and sweeter than the berry she is holding. hope this finds you feeling better. hugs

I have never heard that wild strawberries are poisonous. In fact, I have eaten them before with no ill effects. That being said I can't see for sure that what you have is what I have eaten so I would err on the side of caution and not eat them if I were you.

Hi Ginny, John 15 is one of my favorite Scripture verses. I have several Strawberry plants growing in pots and in an upside down Strawberry planter on my deck. So far the Squirrels have not gotten curious about them. Hope that I'll harvest before the critters figure it out. Nice post today. I would not eat that wild Strawberry as I do not know it to be edible - looks very different than Alpine wild Strawberries. Better safe than poisoned. Have a great Day!

I never saw such wild strawberries as the ones that grow in your garden ..they almost look fake

Your grand daughter always looks so happy ...she picked a lot of berries!

I used to pick wild berries with my kids in the yard where I used to live not far from here and in the woods which look similar- called thimble berries.
The moon photos look terrific, and I loved the way you wove the story together..the strawberries look fantastic and what a yummy project!

great moon shots, Ginny! and those strawberries look good enough to eat. ;) Ours are just now beginning to ripen and we are hoping to harvest a few before long.

Those are not real strawberries but for the life of me I cannot remember what their real name is...I know as a kid I tasted one thinking it was a strawberry and the one I tasted did not have a bit of flavor...wild stawberries that I have had are really tart....try coping and pasting this link:

It is what I have but one place said there are a lot of plants that mimic strawberries.

Can you eat the wils strawberries.

I love going to pick and eat strawberries. You eat mor ethan you pay for the,

Your grand daughter, Ann Marie is growing more and more beautiful. it's all due to the TLC you and your family shower on her. I can imagine she will be another "bloody useless " girl if she wasn't given this chance to live with your family. You have blessed her so much.
